The lifestyle of a person is changing, and the attitude towards the institution of family and marriage is gradually changing. Civil marriage today has become commonplace, and the birth of a child before the couple's wedding raises no complaints. Society is sympathetic to parents who do not have time to register a relationship in a frantic career race. However, it is still not worth delaying a visit to the registry office, the researchers warn.

Specialists from Duke University, USA, collected and analyzed data on the number of marriage registrations and subsequent divorces among couples whose children were born before marriage. Pros estimate that 64% of children born to unmarried women see their mother getting married. But almost 50% of these marriages end in divorce. As the study showed, ten years later, 38% of marriages concluded by biological parents after conceiving a child were dissolved, writes Meddaily.ru.

By the way, many psychologists in the United States note that children of parents living in a civil marriage are more likely to face psychological problems, because their parents separate twice as often as married ones. In Russia, the well-being of children is also, oddly enough, associated with a stamp in the passport: for example, 42% of abandonment of newborns in maternity hospitals falls on mothers who live in a civil marriage.

But if the marriage was contracted within the first three years after the birth of the child, the risk of divorce was reduced.

“A stable marriage has a positive effect on the condition of children. If a woman marries the biological father of a child, this is quite possible to achieve. But getting married is worth it at a certain time,”says expert Christina Gibson-Davis on the results of the study.

At the same time, the divorce rate among women who gave birth to a baby before marriage and married another man (not the child's biological father) was 54%.
