Canet's "Blood Ties" is a remake of the French thriller of the same name by Jacques Maillot, but in a Hollywood way. The plot is based on the criminal Brooklyn of the 70s and the relationship of the two brothers. One of them, who is serving a sentence, promises his brother to return to the criminal environment in order to help the family.

As Guillaume admitted, he thought for a long time about a proposal to make a film in the United States. “I received several offers, but none of them pleased me,” the director told the French edition of Figaro. - Yes, to be honest, the prospect of working with American studios scared me. And I thought that the only way to be free is to start my own project. And after the first reading of the script for "Blood Ties" I thought that I want to make this film."

“You know, there is something Shakespearean in this picture,” Canet advertises his project. "All these themes: family, brotherhood, betrayal, redemption." The brothers were played by Clive Owen and Billy Crudup. And Marion and Mila Kunis got the role of their lovers. However, a rather complex love relationship is envisaged between all four characters.

The director also complained that his “American Dream” quickly turned into a nightmare: “The filming was very difficult! The USA has very strict rules and work rhythm, which I did not expect at all. I was not prepared for this."
