As the producer of the film, Alexander Rodnyansky, told reporters, in September during the week "Leviathan" will be shown in Moscow, but will be widely released in early 2015. The fact is that it is in the fall that the Russian Oscar committee will have to nominate a film from Russia for a prestigious award. According to the regulations, the picture should appear on the screens by this time.

Let us remind you that last year Fyodor Bondarchuk's film “Stalingrad” was nominated for the Oscar from Russia, but the film did not make it into the shortlist.

“We were offered a model used by our American distributor, Sony Classics,” explained the producer. - The film should be released at the beginning of the year, when the so-called "awards season" starts. While we are thinking, but the basic solution is as follows: we will show "Leviathan" during a week in one Moscow cinema. Then we will take a break, postpone the wide release and release Leviathan at the beginning of the year, this will be January-March."

"Leviathan" - the author's interpretation of the history of the biblical Job, told on the material of modern Russia. This is Zvyagintsev's fourth full-length feature film.

As the film reviewers remind, the first film of the director - "Return" - won two "Golden Lions" of the Venice film festivals - "For the best film" and "For the best debut". The second film - "Banishment" - won the Cannes Film Festival prize for Best Actor. The third film, Elena, won a special prize from the Unassigned Look program at the Cannes Film Festival.
