February 14 is traditionally considered not only Valentine's Day, but also the most appropriate time to set a new record. Especially when it comes to kisses, hugs and other romantic things. This year, the residents of Thailand have especially distinguished themselves. The world record for the longest kiss is set in Pattaya.

In total, 14 pairs of Thais took part in the record marathon. The kissing contest started on Sunday at 6 a.m. local time, so that by the evening of February 14, when Valentine's Day is celebrated, set a new achievement for the duration of the kiss.

According to the organizer of the competition, the result exceeded all expectations. Nobody expected that there would be so many new record holders, Vesti. Ru notes. Even with the harsh competition rules, seven of the 14 competing couples were able to break the previous record of 32 hours. In the course of the competition, seven couples left the race, then, shortly before the end of the marathon, another six pairs of lovers dropped out.

The conditions of the competition were quite tough, RIA Novosti reports. So, during a kiss, you could only drink water or juice through a straw, without opening your lips. The participants were forbidden to sit. The hugs could not be interrupted even when visiting the toilet, which was allowed to go once every three hours.

As a result, the competition was won by a married couple who managed not to open their lips for more than a day and a half. According to representatives of the Guinness Book of Records, the kiss of 42-year-old Ekkashai Tiranarat and his 31-year-old wife Laksana lasted 46 hours and 24 minutes. The previous record belongs to a German couple, whose kiss in 2009 lasted 32 hours.

The winning couple, in addition to fame, received from the organizers a diamond ring worth 50 thousand baht (1.6 thousand dollars) and a cash prize of 100 thousand baht (3, 2 thousand dollars).
