Filipina received the title of Miss Universe 2018

Katriona Gray won the Miss Universe 2018 title. On Sunday night, she won the competition, surpassing 93 competitors. Gray, who turned 24, has been one of the favorites for the entire year. She is the fourth Miss Universe from the Philippines.

Born in Australia, she competed in a beauty pageant for the first time at age five, then moved to the Philippines, then flew to the United States to attend university. She is studying music at Berkeley College.

This year, the competition was somewhat marred by the scandal that arose due to the fact that Miss USA Sarah Rose Summers was convicted of taunting Miss Cambodia and Miss Vietnam's knowledge of English. Summers posted a corresponding provocative video on Insta. She later apologized, noting that her life, friendships, and career were based on the fact that she was an empathic and compassionate person and that she had no intention of harming anyone. Summers competed in the semi-finals, but failed to make it into the top ten.

Many commentators noted that this year's competition is unique in the composition and diversity of participants. Miss Spain Angela Pons will go down in history as the first transgender contestant. “I participate in it because this is what I have wanted to do since I was a little girl,” Pons said in an interview with Time. "I show that transgender women can be whoever they want: a teacher, a mother, a doctor, a politician and even Miss Universe." Unfortunately for Pons, she didn't even make the top twenty.

The competition was held in the capital of Thailand, Bangkok.
