For three months, public attention has been riveted on the case of Mikhail Efremov, who became the culprit of the fatal accident. The hearing is over, and today it became known to what term the actor was sentenced.

Chronology of events

Driving his own jeep, the actor Efremov became the culprit of the accident on the Garden Ring - he drove into the oncoming lane and collided with Sergey Zakharov's Lada van. The man was taken to the hospital, where he later died from his injuries incompatible with life without regaining consciousness.

During the examinations, it was found that at the time of the accident the actor was not only drunk, but also under the influence of drugs.

More about the event

Today, on September 8, 2020, the Presnensky Court of the city of Moscow sentenced Mikhail Efremov to 8 years in prison in a general regime colony. He also collected 800 thousand rubles from the artist in a civil claim in favor of the eldest son of the deceased Sergei Zakharov, and not 8 million previously announced.

Efremov was deprived of the right to drive a vehicle for three years after his release. The artist was taken into custody in the courtroom.

They put handcuffs on him and sent him to a pre-trial detention center, where he will remain until the entry into force of the verdict.

As reported by "RIA Novosti", the Presnensky court did not begin to deprive the actor of awards.

Earlier, the state prosecutor asked to appoint Efremov a sentence of 11 years in prison with serving the sentence in a strict regime colony. The victims expressed their agreement with the court's decision, while Elman Pashayev, Efremov's lawyer, asked for a “fair” punishment not related to imprisonment.

The court, having studied the materials of the case, took into account the extenuating circumstances - the admission of guilt, the presence of the accused of three minor children, participation in public life, charity, state of health and the fact that Efremov had not previously been involved in criminal cases.

Reading out the verdict, judge Elena Abramova stated that at the time of the accident, the accused, according to the examinations, was in a state of strong alcoholic intoxication, drove into the oncoming lane, violated a number of traffic rules and collided with Sergey Zakharov's van.

The judge stressed that the testimony of witnesses from the defense, asserting that at the time of the collision, it was not Efremov, but someone else, who was driving the jeep, is biased. The court found that Sergei Zakharov, who died as a result of that terrible accident, moved without changing speed and direction.

Consequently, there is no reason to recognize as reliable the testimony of the artist, who at the stage of the judicial investigation repeatedly stated that he did not remember that he had become a participant in an accident. Elena Abramova stated that the proceedings were conducted in accordance with the law.

The verdict was made on the basis of a complete list of necessary examinations, testimony and data from CCTV cameras. In the courtroom, Efremov was handcuffed, and later taken to the pre-trial detention center in a paddy wagon.

The artist's lawyer Elman Pashayev does not agree with the actual term of the defendant and intends to appeal the verdict. A day earlier, Ivan Okhlobystin sent an appeal to the President of the Russian Federation V. V. Putin with a request to pardon Mikhail Efremov, who is accused of the fatal accident.

The lawyer of the injured party, Alexander Dobrovinsky, in his commentary on this, noted that only the accused himself can ask for pardon after the verdict is passed, and only then the document can be supported by colleagues and relatives. Thus, on September 8, 2020, an end was put in the case of Mikhail Efremov.
