Domestic filmmakers can be congratulated on another success. The military drama "Battalion" directed by Dmitry Meskhiev was named the best picture at the Mumbai International Film Festival. Moreover, in addition to winning the main nomination, the jury gave the film three more awards: for editing, screenplay and Best Actress.
None of the film crew could fly to the film forum in India, so the Russian consul accepted the awards. But nevertheless, the producer of the tape, Igor Ugolnikov, is overjoyed. “Creating Battalion, we knew that the picture would be understandable to viewers of all countries. After all, for all of us, regardless of language and culture, the concepts of "woman" and "war" are incompatible, - the producer told the journalists of "Moskovsky Komsomolets". - Russia has always been very interested in Indian culture and, of course, Indian cinema. Therefore, it is especially gratifying that the film was awarded at the Mumbai Film Festival. I'll tell you a secret: I really hope someday to shoot a picture with my favorite actress - Aishwarya Rai."
"The world has once again recognized the greatness of the Russian acting school - Masha Aronova brilliantly coped with this turning point in her fate!" - Ugolnikov emphasized.
Recall that the film tells about the feat of the female "death battalion" under the command of the Knight of St. George, Maria Bochkareva, created in Petrograd by order of the Provisional Government in 1917. The main roles in the film were played by Maria Aronova, Maria Kozhevnikova, Irina Rakhmanova and Marat Basharov.
For the sake of filming, the actresses had to shave their heads, march on the parade ground and master drill. “The one who had a very hard time was my battalion. And they bow to them low to me! “We took great care,” said Maria Aronova in a recent interview. - The hardest part was in the battle scenes. And the girls - Masha Kozhevnikova, Ira Rakhmanova, Yana Malinchik - are heroines in general! Dirt, wet shoes, heavy overcoats damp, standing for hours in the cold wind, lying in the trenches. And what kind of marches they had to make! Even a healthy man finds it difficult to overcome this. Honestly, a woman can only be pushed to war by grief - an uncomplicated life or the loss of loved ones. If Maria Leontyevna had children, her husband was normal, she would not have ended up in the trenches. And in general, a woman does not need to be a commander."
