Believers are looking forward to one of the main church holidays. Every Christian knows what date the Nativity Fast begins and what date it ends. In 2019-2020 it will last 40 days. From November 28th to January 6th.
History
In contrast to that time, now people know when the Nativity Fast begins and ends in 2019-2020. Things were different then. At first, in the days of the Old Testament, when the first fasts were just beginning to be observed, there were no clear dates and rules.
Everything was much simpler - the believers denied themselves delicious food, thereby cleansing the body. The duration of abstinence, as a sign of repentance and reconciliation with the Most High, did not exceed seven days. Moreover, everyone adhered to this - the poor, noble people and rulers. Then they again led a normal life, not limiting themselves in anything.
Despite the difficult times, the ancient Jews, in addition to eating meat, refused worldly pleasures. Monastic norms of fasting appeared in the 17th century. During the reign of the emperor of Byzantium - Manuel and the patriarch Luke. It was then, in 1166, that clear adjustments were made to the church calendar.

Our ancestors have accumulated this heritage for centuries to pass on to their descendants. Thanks to this, today everyone has a unique opportunity to spend a holiday according to all the rules, as it was in the old days.
Signs of the Nativity Fast:
- Household chores are best done in the morning. Cleaning up during the fast in the evenings is fraught with the fact that Christmas can be met with a house full of devils and demons.
- You cannot swear on Christmas fast, otherwise you will not get rid of troubles all year round.
- The family will be prosperous and successful if, during the fast, regularly go to the market and shop, not saving on the necessary things.
- According to the legend, in order not to need anything all year, there should be 12 dishes on the table on Christmas Eve.
- The whole next year will be like Christmas. Therefore, the holiday should be held on a positive wave.
- Severe frosts in the first days of the Nativity Fast testified to abundant harvests of wheat, and hence bread.
- If the weather is warm during the fast, it should be cold in spring.
- You cannot celebrate the holiday in everyday clothes - this is fraught with financial difficulties.
- If the first person to visit your home during the Christmas holidays is a person with a dark shock of hair, expect happiness.
- In order to live in abundance all year long, you need to host guests as often as possible and not refuse invitations yourself.
- To drive out evil spirits, be sure to light a fireplace on the days of fasting. Not everyone has it in the house, and even more so in the apartment, then the church candle is on the table.
- A meeting with a dog, or a man with a hump at the Nativity Fast is a great success.
Christmas signs do not tolerate frivolity. You need to be careful and not ignore them, then you will be provided with luck and prosperity.
Traditions during the Nativity Fast
Having found out what date the fast begins before the great Orthodox holiday, it is worth remembering its traditions.
In Russia, during fasting, women gathered in one hut and devoted a lot of time to spinning. In the process of work, they listened to spiritual singers, and sometimes sang themselves. It is customary to do good deeds during fasting.
In this regard, Christians took under their wing wanderers and people in need of help. Those, in turn, entertained the workers with fairy tales and various interesting stories.
In modern society, Orthodox believers also have their own customs. The meaning of fasting is not only physical, but also spiritual abstinence. It is worth limiting yourself to watching TV and using the Internet. No one is immune from unforeseen troubles. However, it is recommended that every effort be made to maintain a friendly atmosphere in the family.
In the modern rhythm, it is not always possible to strictly follow all the rules of the Nativity Fast. The point is to become kinder to those close to you and those around you. Learn to forgive and not remember grudges.
