Can't look at a bar of chocolate without regret? And this is not necessary. Instead of looking at the treat, it is better to eat it and not be tormented by remorse. According to Swedish scientists, they once again received evidence that chocolate is not only useful, but in some cases can even save lives.

Swedish doctors have found that chocolate is good for people who have had a heart attack. For those who eat chocolate two or more times a week, the risk of dying from heart disease is reduced by almost three times.

The researchers analyzed data on the health status of 169 men and women aged 45 to 70 years who were hospitalized with their first heart attack in the early nineties. Those who ate chocolate two or more times a week experienced a decrease in heart disease deaths. However, less chocolate also provides some protection, according to France Presse.

The study, published in the Journal of Internal Medicine, has shown for the first time that chocolate can prevent death from cardiovascular disease in patients with myocardial infarction.

"Our findings support the growing evidence that chocolate is an important source of essential nutrients," the scientists write. The antioxidants found in cocoa probably explain the beneficial effects of chocolate, according to study co-author Dr. Kenneth Mukamal of the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, USA.

Scientists also state that chocolate helps to reduce mortality among healthy men and older women. In their opinion, the lower the amount of chocolate eaten, the worse the body's defense against potential fatal cardiac diseases.

At the same time, as one of the leaders of the study, Imre Jančka, emphasizes, sweets as such are by no means the elixir of life and a panacea for all diseases. So far, scientists have found positive effects only in chocolate.
