At a briefing, Deputy Minister of Education of the Russian Federation Dmitry Glushko told reporters how work will be organized in all educational institutions from September 1. According to the official, all educational institutions will begin their activities as usual:

• technical schools;
• colleges;
• universities.

Prior to that, it was announced that due to the coronavirus, traditional lines will not be held in schools dedicated to the Day of Knowledge. Schoolchildren will immediately disperse to their offices and spend the first day of the school year there.

Technical schools and universities will begin their work in August. During this time, students will be able to take exams and tests, as well as pass state exams and defend their theses.

During this period, documents will also be accepted. It is planned that by September 1 it will be possible to hand over them in several ways:

• through the portal of public services;
• by email;
• through the "Russian Post".

For the remaining two summer months, educational institutions are required to carry out a complete sanitization of all premises. This proves that the main educational process will remain the same: schoolchildren and students will be trained in schools, colleges, technical schools and universities.

Will distance education be introduced in Russia?

An experiment to test new digital educational materials will be conducted in the following regions:

The administration system in these educational institutions will be transferred to an electronic format, new platforms for teachers and students will be tested. Students will be able to remotely enroll in libraries. The entire document flow in educational institutions will be transferred to digital format in these regions.

The experiment is designed to test the corrections that have been made to the remote schedule, and will complement the basic training. It is not planned to replace the traditional learning process with distance learning anywhere - neither in schools, nor in technical schools, nor in universities.

The introduction of a partial transition to digital format in education as an experiment should make it easier for students to access teaching materials and databases. The experiment will end at the end of December 2020.

Those who are worried about whether distance learning will be available in Russia from September 1, 2020 should understand that the government has no plans to replace the traditional education system with a remote format. The digital version of education will only complement the usual form of acquiring knowledge in certain regions. The experiment should help simplify the administration process, workflow and a platform on which teachers and students can work when needed.
