The film was released, treated kindly at the Moscow International Film Festival. This is the melodrama of the debutante Katya Shagalova “Once in the province”. Some praise this film for the emotions of a true melodrama, while others reproach it with excessive aestheticism - all this beauty does not correspond to the realities of the hinterland.

Actress Nastya arrives in a provincial town. In the capital, she starred in TV shows, but life turned in such a way that the girl wants to start all over again. She chose not the best place for “starting all over again”.

The actress (Julia Peresild) went to her sister Vera, but she was not expecting her and was not at all happy about her appearance - she was too busy with her husband. “My heroine is completely under the influence of love for her husband, she is very dependent on this feeling,” says Elvira Bolgova (Vera). - This is the case when a feeling becomes a disease, when a person turns into a drug addict, into a slave to his passion. It was interesting for me to show how such psychological slavery develops in a person."

Nastya is left to herself, and at this time in the courtyard of the hostel, residents gather in the evenings. Here everyone drinks, scandals and cheats on their spouses without much love, it seems, just out of boredom. Although deep down they are all not like that - they just live with the wrong people, not there, and not the way they would like. The appearance of Nastya is like a match - passions flare up with renewed vigor, the secret becomes clear, but … an accidental tragedy returns the provincial swamps to their shores.

The film "Once Upon a Time in the Province" was filmed not so far from the capital - in Podolsk, near Moscow. The film turned out to be grotesque, but believable - at the level of feelings, of course. And from the point of view of the picture, the characters look too well-groomed, or something …
