Keeping fast days is an important point for believers. At this time, there is a unique opportunity to temper willpower and free yourself from everything that spoils life. There are only four multi-day periods of self-restraint in a year, an important place among them is occupied by the Petrov post. In order not to miss it, you need to know when it starts in 2022.

History of origin

Seven days after the celebration of the Trinity, Peter's fast begins. Its observance is directly related to the names of the two apostles - Peter and Paul. Temples dedicated to them were built in Constantinople and Rome, after which the faithful of the whole world began to observe Peter's fast.

When the Petrovsky post

The start date changes every year, because it depends on Easter and, accordingly, Trinity. In 2022, this period will begin on June 20 and will last until July 11. The beginning is always Monday, and the duration depends on what date Easter was. You can calculate the start date yourself: count 57 days from Easter.

While fasting, one should not only limit oneself in food, but also purify oneself spiritually. This is the time when you need to ask for forgiveness from God, loved ones, do not swear and be in complete peace.

How to comply with food restrictions

Knowing what date Peter's Lent begins and ends, it is important to set yourself up to comply with certain restrictions in food. He is not as strict as the Great One, but still there are rules that cannot be deviated from:

  • on Monday you can eat hot food with the addition of vegetable oil;
  • on Wednesday and Friday, you can eat food without adding oil, it is better if it is just fruits and vegetables;
  • food with vegetable oil can be eaten only on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday, on these days you can also add fish to the diet.

To properly observe Peter's fast, you can use the church calendar, which contains information for each day.

Celebration in the church

Everyday services are held in churches on all days of Peter's Lent. On any day, you can come to church and order a prayer for health and repose. Confession and communion are held according to the church calendar.

According to the priests, this period of restrictions is classified as light, but despite this, its charter corresponds to the Nativity Fast. In monasteries at this time, the main drink is kvass, which most often monks prepare on their own.

Traditions

Peter's Lent has its own traditions that have come to us since ancient times. In Russia, its observance is directly related to cooking:

  • On holidays, which could fall at this time, the hostesses baked pies, the so-called rybniki. The filling was fish, and the pie itself was necessarily open.
  • Most often, dishes such as okroshka, lean cabbage soup, and mushroom caviar appeared on the tables of believers on Wednesday and Friday.

In Russia, the people of Peter's post were called "petrovka-hunger strike", because at the beginning of summer there were no reserves left since winter, and it was still far from the new harvest.

On patronal holidays, it is even allowed to drink wine, but, of course, in moderation.

What is forbidden to do

Many believers try to adhere to the same rules as during Great Lent, but this is not true. An important point in observing Peter's Lent is the memory of the Christian way of life. During this period, you can get married, but young people can only visit the registry office, and the wedding is not held.
