The rules of Great Lent are the same for all believers who decide to adhere to it. It is already known that it will last from March 7 to April 23, in connection with which many want to know whether it is possible to drink wine during Lent 2022.

Is it permissible to use wine during Great Lent?

It is known that dairy products and food of animal origin should be strictly excluded from the diet of believers. There are, however, certain indulgences that apply only to certain days. In addition, people with specific working conditions and those with health problems may be less strict in following the rules prescribed by the church.

This drink is not classified as an animal product. Moreover, wine acts as a kind of symbol of the blood of God, which is used in many church rites. Thus, the union of the divine and the human can be described as the union of water and wine. Water in this case is responsible for the image of human nature, and wine means divine.

When the Lord turned wine into water, people talked about a miracle. Accordingly, when drinking wine on a church holiday, one can understand this in such a way that believers come into contact with the essence of the deity. Despite this, it is difficult to answer exactly the question of whether it is possible to drink wine during Lent.

There are different points of view. Someone, because of the priests, assures that wine can only be consumed in small quantities, this is permissible by the church. Others are sure that such prescriptions were applicable earlier, when people did not have enough really high-quality drinking water, and therefore, for health reasons, the monks were forced to add wine to it.

Dry wine was sometimes even consumed instead of drinking, and sweet varieties of the drink were put on the table on solemn days. Previously, it was believed that this drink is able to strengthen a person's strength.

Interesting! Dry eating in fasting and what you can eat

It is enough for believers to adhere to a lean diet and reinforce their state of health with vitamin complexes.

All this allows the clergy to think that drinking wine during Great Lent is not at all necessary and you can even observe it without this drink. Lent is a period when you have to focus on the spiritual realm, give up worldly desires and temptations. For this reason, it is better to use kvass, compotes, mineral water, berry and fruit juices. They not only do not distract from spiritual enlightenment, but also support the body with various vitamins and minerals. There are believers who even refuse coffee and black tea, drink only water, like most monks.

As for the final Saturday before Easter, it is forbidden to consume any alcoholic beverages at all.

If we talk about what kind of wine is allowed during Great Lent, then it is better to take the consecrated one. You can buy it in the shop at the church. This wine is specially diluted with water, due to this it will not be too strong. It is better to drink it only on the days when it is allowed to do so, and no more than 1 glass a day.

You can not use alcohol for entertainment purposes, the church categorically condemns this. It is worth finding the strength to give up excessive alcohol consumption at least for the period of Great Lent, when a person is required to approach everything spiritual.

Fasting is observed so that a person gains clarity of mind, can focus on his real feelings and get distracted from everything that prevents him from thinking and doing the right thing, in accordance with the principles of spirituality and humanity.
