The desire to look sexy and seductive has been inherent in women since ancient times. Most popular beauty products, from depilatory products to eyeliner and eyebrow pencils, were invented thousands of years ago. And the question of how to visually enlarge the bust has worried women's minds for more than one century.

On April 28 in London, as part of the Science of Beauty exhibition at the Science Museum, the world's oldest breast enlargement bra will be on display.

The ancestor of modern push up models dates back to the early 1800s. This piece of women's toilet is designed in much the same way as modern models: it is equipped with special tabs that lift and support the breasts.

Museum Assistant Curator Selina Hurley said: “We've always thought push-up is a modern invention, but when we found this example, we realized that women were looking for ways to visually enlarge their breasts as early as the 1800s. This bra is one of a kind, there is nothing like it in our collection."

To date, the push up bra, introduced by the lingerie company Wonderbra in 1964, ranks first in popularity among women and, according to polls, was named the greatest invention in the field of lingerie. Almost everyone has at least one model of this underwear in the closet.

The push up bra is considered the leader in the top five inventions for women. This list also includes: a little black dress worn by Audrey Hepburn in the famous painting "Breakfast at Tiffany's"; mini-skirts, which became fashionable thanks to the fragile model of Twiggy; stilettos from Sarah Jessica Parker; and at the end of the list are slimming underwear for body shaping, which is now known as "Bridget Jones' underpants."
