On Wednesday, October 3, a very interesting exhibition called Ocultos ("The Hidden") opens in Madrid. The exhibition will feature the work of 67 famous photographers, including such legends as Man Ray and Henri Cartier-Bresson. What is the exhibition dedicated to? Human buttocks of all shapes and sizes.

The Fundacion Canal of Madrid is hosting the Ocultos exhibition until January 6, 2008. The name of the project, according to the organizers of the exhibition, comes from the names of collectors' private offices, where the most piquant works of art were kept that should not have been shown to the public. Among the exhibits are works by Robert Cap, Man Ray, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Robert Mapplethorpe.

Several years ago, a painting by artist Dilek O'Keeffe "Consumerism 2" depicting the buttocks of pop diva Kylie Minogue was removed from an exhibition of contemporary art at the Royal Academy of Arts in England. The canvas was removed, formally citing a copyright violation - the image of the buttocks was taken from the clip Spinning Around.

Do not think that such an exhibition is a somewhat frivolous event.

The organizers of the project accompanied the exhibition with a commentary in which the buttocks are called the object of worship of our society.

The photographs presented "showcase a host of artistic possibilities of the human body viewed from the rear," the organizers of the exhibition say. The photographers showed in their works a part of the body, "which has always been, is and will be the subject of a cult in our society." "Just as when looking at a human portrait from the front, we immediately look at the face, when we see a person from the back, our gaze immediately focuses on the buttocks, which actually become the main character of the image."
