The perfume creates a unique aura around you, and the elegant bottle pleases the eye and emphasizes the style. One of my acquaintances, when she cannot decide which scent to "wear", chooses the perfume, the bottle of which suits her clothes better than others. This has its own rationale.

The beginning of a fragrant story

The art of perfumery originated in 2800 BC, judging by the first historical references about perfume. The ancient peoples of Egypt, Greece, Rome and China used fragrances for both aesthetic and medical purposes. The healing powers of essential oils have been used in personal hygiene to eliminate unpleasant odors and add aroma to the body and home. The collapse of the Roman Empire had a disastrous effect on perfumery, which was revived only in the 16th century. Then, scented balls became popular. Most modern perfume factories, such as Yardley, were founded as early as the 18th century.

When we are looking for “our smell”, the “outfit” of perfume also plays an important role. Perfume bottles create not only for storage, but also for the effective demonstration of aroma. Their design has become a real obsession for many collectors.

Today, some of these masterpieces are leaving Marilyn Manson to release his own perfume, which he announced a couple of years ago.

1940s - 1950s. Plastic and the beginning of the design boom

The post-war period brought industrial glass and plastic caps into the production of bottles. The cheapness of the materials was offset by new catchy shapes and designs. The famous Lili Dashe, a designer of hats and other accessories, created a bottle in the shape of a poodle for the Dashing fragrance, and in the shape of a woman's bust for Drifting. Christian Dior's New Look, and later Miss Dior, released in 1947, became symbols of elegance and sophistication.

The elegant heart-shaped bottle for the first fragrance launched by Nina Ricci was designed by the house of Lalique, just like the classic L'Air du Temps.

The invention by a Belgian-American chemist of a new material, bakelite (an insoluble synthetic resin), enabled manufacturers to create bottles at an even lower cost.

1960s - present. Influenced by marketing

In the 1960s and 1970s, luxury packaging was replaced by inexpensive, small bottles. For the first time, paper flavored strips have appeared in stores. This move was coined by Giorgio Beverly Hills in order to increase sales.

Today, some of these masterpieces go under the hammer for hundreds of thousands of dollars.

The end of the 20th century, when competition in the perfumery market became especially serious, was fruitful for original design solutions for bottles.

More and more new forms are created using glass and newly-invented materials. The saturation of the perfume market stimulates famous fashion houses to release so-called limited-edition perfumes, such as Remember Me by Dior in 2000. It's getting harder and harder to invent something new. Recently, there was a real scandal caused by the appearance of the new fragrance Insolence from Guerlain, the design of the bottle of which the French court considered too similar to the bottle previously created by the Parisian company Cardiet Design.

What kind of perfume bottles were not invented by our contemporaries, trying to amaze customers and emphasize the features of the aroma. For example, Jacques Cavallier's J’S aroma container was made by the Spanish designer Juan-Carlos Rustarazo. A silver ring is threaded in the center of the rectangular bottle. Looks like the perfume is wearing piercings.

Invisible underwear

As Donna Karan said, "The scent is the bottom layer of the garment, the invisible woman's underwear."But for all its invisibility, a bottle storing a priceless "bouquet" always remains not hidden from prying eyes. And, you must admit, loving the scent with your eyes is also nice. Last year, when the PARUS National Perfumery Awards took place, Emanuel Ungaro's Appartion won the Best Bottle Design nomination. It also happens that you really like the smell, but at the same time you would prefer to store it in another bottle. Once in Prague I bought a perfume bottle made of Bohemian glass for a friend. There was something elusive in him that created a special mood. A friend was very happy, saying that her favorite scent just needs a decent decoration. Now this little accessory always lives in her purse, which once again emphasizes her femininity and delicate taste. Pay attention to the bottle of your favorite perfume, perhaps it is also a real work of art!
