Rats can be divided into two groups: they are portrayed as either evil or kind. As a rule, they are assigned a secondary role, but one on which the fate of the protagonist largely depends.
Until now, no one has managed to come up with a character that would overlap Mickey Mouse in popularity, the newspaper Novye Izvestia writes. Next year, the mouse will celebrate its 80th anniversary. In 1978, Mickey was the first cartoon character to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Among his competitors are Jerry, who is chased by Tom the cat, and the leaders of the last year's film distribution: the rat chef Remy from the cartoon Ratatouille and the charming rat sewer mafia led by Rita and Roddy from the cartoon Flushed Away.
After the release of these hand-drawn films, a real rat boom began. Little viewers began to demand that their parents have a mouse as their favorite pet.
"Since the release of Ratatouille, we have seen a huge increase in the number of domestic rats - these animals have really come into fashion," said Gerald Moro Moreau, head of the Association of Pet Rat Lovers (Aprac). “All kids convince their parents to buy a rat, and it's wonderful. Rats are much smarter, much more interesting than hamsters or mice."
Even "authoritative" characters from the tales of venerable authors will not be able to correct the hooligan image of the mouse. So, everyone only laughs at the terrible mouse king from Hoffmann's "Nutcracker". The horse mice and the coachman rat from Charles Perrault's Cinderella also evoke conflicting emotions, and the pimp mouse from Andersen's Thumbelina turned out to be a mean nature. So the attitude towards rats and mice is twofold, but the main thing is that in the coming year the mistress of the year treats you favorably.
