Popular writer Erika Leonard James is furious. The manuscript of her new novel was reportedly stolen a week before publication. The publisher fears that cybercriminals will soon publish the text of the book on the network. And for James, it's a disaster.

A new book called "Gray" was supposed to be published on June 18, the birthday of the protagonist Christian Gray. According to The Daily Mail, the previous evening it became known about the loss of the manuscript. Penguin Random House declined to comment "because of an ongoing police investigation."

As rbk.ru clarifies, James is not the first writer whose manuscript was stolen before publication. In 2007, a few days before the release, the full text of the last part of Harry Potter by Joanne Rowling hit the Internet. This happened despite serious security measures that were taken by the publisher.

James decided to release a sequel to the popular trilogy after numerous requests from fans of the series. The new novel is narrated from the perspective of billionaire Christian Gray. “Christian has a complex character, and readers have always wanted to know more about his motivations, desires and difficult past, - said the writer. "Plus, everyone who's ever had a relationship knows that there are always two sides to a story." Previously, the editor of the publishing house that publishes the novel called the book "incredibly exciting and retains all the virtues of the original trilogy."

As a reminder, work is underway to prepare the filming of the sequel to the film "50 Shades of Gray". The tape titled "50 Shades Darker" will be presented on February 10, 2017, and the third part - "50 Shades of Freedom" - will hit the big screen on February 9, 2018.
