I'm worth more!
I'm worth more!

One of the most frequently cited reasons for dismissal from work is low wages. "I deserve more!" Recruiters even have such a concept - "it costs so much", and there is nothing wrong with it - the knowledge and skills of a person are a commodity that has economic value - and they can and should be sold. However, how do you estimate exactly how much you are worth?

Now there are many firms where, for example, secretaries work for purely symbolic amounts of less than a hundred dollars (and this is not a "white" salary in the accounting department, but a real amount that is handed over to the employee at the end of the month!), While in the holding, who may be standing across the road, a person performing the same functions receives five, six, or even ten times more! Why?

One girl, after several interviews, explained it this way: "Yes, I can do everything that your girls can do, who receive three hundred dollars, but I want a thousand, simply because I have very long fingers." Russian "). It's just that she is confident in herself and, having a certain experience, believes that she is worthy to receive more than others.

However, if in the work of the secretary the duties can really differ - somewhere it is enough to answer calls, and somewhere you have to rush hysterically between fax-copier-coffee maker-receiving guests-telephone-paperwork, at the same time being the face of the company, assistant manager, translator and courier, then there are specialties where the amount paid based on the results of the month is completely conditional - for example, a seller in a perfume shop and in a car dealership - and both require the same skills - knowledge of the product, a sense of the buyer, the ability to offer exactly what, what they get, creating a pleasant atmosphere. However, sellers in a perfume shop are often paid less simply because women work there, and in Russia at the moment there is an artificially supported practice that the fair sex receives less money, even working in a similar male specialty.

So, how do you evaluate your level? First you need to draw up a professiogram - a very useful thing that will help you better imagine both what is required of you and what you can offer. For a more detailed picture, it is advisable to contact a specialist who has been working in this specialty for at least several years.

Try to list everything that may be required of you - education, appearance, knowledge of languages, the most important psychological qualities (ability to communicate with people or perseverance, mobility or resistance to stress), preferred gender, schedule, ability to drive a car, write analytical reviews, work on a computer, typing at airplane speed plus making eyes for the male staff. Once you've created a must-have list, mark the items that you can easily suggest. But this is only one of the components - there is an invaluable characteristic that even the most brilliant candidates cannot always offer - experience. For the absolute maximum, it is recommended to take the salary of a specialist working in the same profession for five to ten years in the largest company that you know. If you are a banker and this is Potanin, then there is something to strive for. For a secretary, the top bar, by the way, is about three thousand, for a sales manager - well over a hundred. There is also a difference in payment in Russian and foreign companies - managers are paid more there, while programmers are paid less.

And do not forget that in Russia there are extremely few (well, about ten thousand) people who cost more than five thousand dollars - this does not mean that such a small number of people earn large sums - they just came to this amount gradually and, in mainly by setting up their own enterprises, or generating invaluable ideas - the latter are known in headhunting agencies by their first names, surnames and addresses, expecting only one slightest opportunity to outbid them in another company. To become such a specialist, a red diploma is not required (although it is desirable), however, you need the desire and ability to work and study, as well as the ability to choose the right company - working in a small company for little money is possible only if you have no experience at all or you studied at the branch of the Vasyukinsky fence-building technical school as a cook - in any case, even for the first job you need to get a job in a medium-sized company, because otherwise it will be very difficult to ask for a high salary later. Another rule - it is advisable not to consider each job as the first and last - the times of Soviet distribution are long gone, now often the company concludes a contract for some time and, accordingly, no one can guarantee that after a year or two you will not be fired for no reason - simply by termination of the contract. Or that you yourself do not want to look for something more.

It is very important not to ask people to evaluate them - for them you are the best on the planet, but a good person, as you know, is not a profession, and therefore you may develop inadequate self-esteem.

So, after assessing your own strength, you need to go online, see the amounts that are offered for a similar position on work sites, add forty percent (it is known that salaries are significantly underestimated, especially if the search for specialists is carried out through a recruiting agency) and indicate in the resume.

If it seems to you that this is too little or (God forbid) incredibly much, ask a specialist who seems to you to be an authority in this area to test you (or several - at least one will not refuse) and go to several interviews with recruiting agencies - this is free of charge and, if the salary is too high, no offers follow, it can be lowered a little. And if there are too many offers, then the requirements clearly need to be increased.

The girl sales manager who carried out such a study in the most thorough way and published it got a much higher-paid position than she planned in a large bank in the analytical department - a well-done job always pays off, and this should not be forgotten at all.

Thus, the salary that you will receive often depends on how confident you are, able to assess your useful qualities and understand the real situation in the labor market. All this is the potential that every person has, you just need to find it.
