The answer to the question of what date is the Day of the Architect changes annually for the following reasons:

• not tied to a specific date;
• 25 years ago, the new decision of the General Assembly of the UIA, held in Barcelona, was a resolution to postpone the date of celebration to the first Monday in October;
• the reasons for this decision are called the special beauty of architectural masterpieces in the cool season, the abundance of holidays in the summer and a small number in the fall.

The holiday was established in 1985, but 11 years later it was postponed to October.

In 2022, World Architecture Day is celebrated by all UIA national chapters on the first Monday in October - 3rd. The International Union of Architects was created in the post-war period to unite efforts to eliminate the consequences of the war. Architects from the Soviet Union were also present at the meeting in London, so the holiday was first in July, and then, after the postponement, it became successive in independent Russia.

Interestingly, it is timed to coincide with World Habitat Day (Day of the Housing). This is a holiday established by the UN, and, perhaps, this is the reason for the postponement from mid-summer.

This day is widely celebrated by representatives of a demanded profession not only in the countries of the world on all continents, but also in the states formed in the post-Soviet space. First of all, thematic conferences of representatives of the profession are held in all member countries of the UIA. Each year, the theme and motto of research and projects is determined, which the developers share in a narrow cultural space. The results are made public, approved and applied to create new trends in urban planning.

There are also some nuances: how they celebrate depends on the country, the number of members of the trade union, the traditions that have formed. In Russia, this holiday is considered their own not only by professional architects, but also by students of specialized universities, engineers and builders, employees of workshops and design bureaus, relatives and acquaintances of everyone who is related to this creative profession and the noble mission of building and planning cities.

Exhibitions, vernissages, festivals, contests and concerts, friendly parties, home feasts, corporate parties - only part of the forms in which the celebration takes place. It is a little complicated by the lack of an official day off and the fact that World Architecture Day is held on Monday. But architects value the opportunity to network with colleagues and share their experience. Therefore, the day is intense, in a creative and friendly atmosphere.
