World renowned horror writer Stephen King celebrates his 60th birthday today, September 21.
It is assumed that the writer will celebrate a significant date in a narrow circle of the family: there will be no magnificent celebrations - once upon a time for Mr. King. He is now busy with really serious things - in the near future his charitable foundation, the Heaven Foundation, will begin its work, which will provide grants to young writers and artists who, due to illness or injury, cannot independently provide for themselves and their families.
In June 1999, King himself experienced a serious car accident, after which he was under the supervision of doctors for a long time and could not fully work. According to him, he was saved only by the fact that he had a solid bank account. Most people in the arts do not have a steady job and income. King founded the Heaven Foundation about a year ago after a charity radio show with acclaimed writers John Irving and J. K. Rowling. During this time, the organizers of the fund were engaged in fundraising.
"Our program will help creators who work in a free mode and can not do it constantly and continuously," - said in a statement from the charitable foundation.
In the summer of 1999, after a long period of recovery from his injuries in the crash, King announced that he would stop writing immediately after completing the Dark Tower epic. Nevertheless, since this statement, published in 2002, several more works by the author have been released: "The Fan" (2004), "The Boy from Colorado" (2005), "Mobile" (2006), "Lizzie's Story" (2006) … This year, King, under the pseudonym "Richard Bachman", released a new book, "Blaze".
