Scientists make the world happy again - a miraculous pill to fight obesity has been invented. Italian scientists have created an overeating pill that expands in the stomach, making you feel full. According to the developers, a single dose of the new drug relieves hunger for several hours.

The composition of the drug, which must be taken half an hour before meals, with plenty of water, contains an organic polymer that actively adsorbs liquid, forming a gel-like substance. A tablet weighing one gram can form up to 1000 milliliters of gel, which slowly dissolves under the action of gastric juice, and is excreted from the body without being absorbed in the intestines.

The idea to create such a miracle capsule came from Italian researchers when they were developing diapers. In the course of this process, scientists have managed to create material that can be enlarged 1000 times.

According to the creator of the new drug, Professor Luigi Ambrosio, its regular use leads to the same effect as surgery to reduce the stomach, but with significantly less risk and cost.

Currently, the drug, which has not yet received an official name, has been tested by 20 volunteers. According to their reviews, one tablet causes a persistent feeling of fullness, which lasts about 6 hours. The tests are scheduled for completion in October 2007. If successful, the drug may go on sale as early as May next year.

Some independent experts believe that the method proposed by Italian colleagues to combat obesity may not be safe for patients. Currently, the developers are preparing for the second stage of clinical trials of the drug, during which it is planned to evaluate its effectiveness, as well as possible side effects. The study will involve 90 obese volunteers.
