As reported on the eve of the Figure Skating Federation, doctors received a conclusion about the discovery of Plushenko's spine injury - there is a crack in one of the discs. The General Director of the Federation, Alexander Kogan, clarified that it was decided not to speed up the preparation of the athlete for the current season. It is assumed that Eugene will undergo another spinal surgery in Israel in the spring of 2016.

Recall that at the 2014 Olympics in Sochi, Plushenko, as part of the Russian national team, won a gold medal in the team tournament, but withdrew from the individual competition due to back pain. In July last year, he returned to the ice and announced plans to take part in the 2018 Olympics.

The skater himself reported on social networks that he is still training. “I really have to miss this season. I have health problems. Doctors recommend the operation, but if I decide on it, it will not be earlier than March, since the recovery after it is very long, and I have a lot of demonstration performances planned."

Evgeny continues to work on a new program with Sergei Filin and Yuri Possokhov and hopes to soon show the leadership of the Federation new short and free programs. “My focus is not just another championship, there have already been a lot of them in my career, my focus is selection for the Olympic Games,” the champion emphasizes. - I don’t want to speed up the preparation, and even more so the serious operative intervention. Dr. Ilya Pekarsky and I are trying injections and other techniques. There is minimal hope of doing without it."
