To baptize or not to baptize? This issue is being actively discussed today by representatives of the Russian Orthodox Church. Some priests are categorically against the baptism of children born to a surrogate mother. In their opinion, if the parents do not consider the "non-standard" way of giving birth to their child a sin, then there can be no talk of the subsequent Christian upbringing of the child.

The day before, the head of the Department for External Church Relations (DECR) of the Moscow Patriarchate, Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, said that such a reproductive technology as surrogate motherhood is unacceptable from the point of view of Christian doctrine. At the same time, he noted that the question of pastoral practice, concerning the attitude towards "biological parents", as well as the baptism of infants born to a surrogate mother, is very controversial.

“On the one hand, any child who is born can be baptized according to the faith of those who intend to baptize him. The baby himself is not guilty for the way he was born into the world. On the other hand, the responsibility for the Christian upbringing of the infant is borne by the parents and the recipients, RIA Novosti quotes the head of the DECR.

Representatives of the clergy have repeatedly spoken out against surrogate motherhood, but after the replenishment of the Prima Donna's family took place, this issue began to be discussed especially vigorously.

In particular, Protodeacon Andrei Kuraev recalled in his LiveJournal that, according to the foundations of the social concept of the Russian Orthodox Church, “surrogate motherhood … is unnatural and morally unacceptable even in cases when it is carried out on a non-commercial basis”.

“If a couple with a huge age gap, having acquired a child through surrogate motherhood, suddenly comes to baptize him, I think they need to be stopped,” wrote Kuraev. - Today our church prohibits the baptism of children whose parents have not gone through pre-baptismal preparation. And in the course of this preparation, the parents of the surrogate child must be explained that the child, who in itself is not guilty of anything, was born through the sin of their parents, who went for it to please their ambitions, despite the fact that they already have their own children and grandchildren. These very unpleasant stories often cover up the homosexual tricks of our pop stars. Usually, homosexual couples take surrogate children, and among the "stars" of our stage, such a pairing is often in the order of things."
