Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich decided to surprise the public once again. Everyone knows that Roman Arkadyevich has one of the most luxurious yachts in the world, his art collection can be envied by the administration of the Louvre, and there are legends about a chic mansion in London. But this is not enough. Now the oligarch is negotiating the purchase of the most expensive house in New York.

According to the New York Post, Abramovich has decided to purchase an old mansion on Fifth Avenue in Manhattan worth $ 75 million. The billionaire is reportedly finalizing negotiations and preparing to sign an agreement.

If the transaction for the purchase of three apartments by Roman Abramovich is completed, its price will be the highest ever paid for housing in New York. The previous record was set by American businessman David Geffen, who bought a mansion located next to Central Park for $ 54 million.

According to the source, Abramovich and his girlfriend Daria Zhukova have been looking out for real estate in the Big Apple since last year and eventually settled on a six-story mansion built in the 1920s for coal magnate Edward Berwind on the Upper East Side.

Currently, the building with a total area of 903 sq. m, divided into five apartments: three triplexes, a duplex and a penthouse. In 2005, British developer Howard Ronson bought two triplexes. He planned to buy out the rest of the apartments and combine them into a house for one family. But in 2007, Ronson died. His family bought the remaining triplex in the building, but in 2012 put all three up for sale. Abramovich intends to follow Ronson's example and buy out the remaining two apartments and become the sole owner of the building.

However, the official representatives of the billionaire have not yet commented on the information.
