The organizers intend to show, on the one hand, the uniqueness of Soviet fashion, and on the other, its connection with Western fashion trends, despite the Iron Curtain. The halls will display costumes, footwear, accessories, samples of Soviet perfumery, illustrations of fashion magazines and photographs by which you can find out what they wore in the USSR.

“At this unique exhibition, viewers will see things from the personal wardrobe of Maya Plisetskaya, Galina Ulanova, Olga Lepeshinskaya, Lydia Smirnova, Clara Luchko, Natalya Fateeva, Tatiana Shmyga, Lyudmila Gurchenko and many other stars of the past,” the press release of the project says.

In particular, about 140 items from the museum-apartment of Galina Ulanova will be presented, and this collection has practically never been exhibited anywhere.

“Ulanova for a long time (and she appeared in Moscow since the 40s) was the standard of elegance. Her entire wardrobe was purchased abroad, - notes the curator of the exhibition Irina Korotkikh. “She was not familiar with certain fashion designers, but some foreign fashion houses and firms, in order to promote their trademark, found it profitable to dress the star of the Soviet ballet - in this way they promoted their brand.”

“Maya Plisetskaya belongs to a different generation and carries a completely different style in her clothes,” explains Korotkikh. - There was no challenge in her wardrobe, but there was no limitation to the classic style. The striving for modernity and minimalism of forms became a characteristic feature. It was Maya Plisetskaya, who possesses a powerful creative energy, who became the muse of the great French fashion designer Pierre Cardin, which in itself is an outstanding event in the history of Soviet fashion”.
