The Danish royal family may turn out to be the main newsmaker of the month among the monarchies of Europe. Every week, significant events take place in the palace, such as celebrations on the occasion of the "ruby" anniversary of Her Majesty or the birth of her granddaughter Margrethe II (Margrethe II). So, on Friday, Prince Joachim and Princess Marie presented their youngest daughter to the public. And on Saturday, January 28, an exhibition of Her Majesty's works opened at the Arken Museum of Contemporary Art.

Margrethe II is fond of different types of fine arts - she is engaged not only in painting, but also in book illustration. Many of her landscapes are made in shades of blue and green; the Queen's last works depict bones, due to her interest in archeology.

The exposition entitled “The Essence of Color: The Art of Queen Margrethe II” has become the largest exhibition of the monarchy's works, featuring 135 works. These are acrylic paintings, watercolors and collages created over the past 35 years.

Among the exhibited works there are those that the public will see for the first time. Christian Gether, director of the museum, claims that Margrethe II's painting is quite expressive. The paintings are professional in themselves, but the fact that they were painted by the monarch gives them even more charm. The exhibition of works will run until July.

The Queen herself admitted that it is a great honor for her to present the largest collection of her paintings in the Danish Museum of Art.

“I was very pleased when I was offered to arrange an exhibition of my works in this particular museum of modern art. Here in Denmark it is a very popular destination. For me, such an offer was truly a great honor,”Her Majesty admitted.

She also noted that over the years she feels more confident as an artist. According to the queen, she finds time to paint every week, but mostly painting from September to May.
