Until recently, Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich was considered one of the avid buyers of luxury goods. He almost without bargaining acquired paintings, sculptures and luxurious mansions. But now Roman Arkadyevich seems to be receding into the background. Other billionaires are also willing to invest in expensive acquisitions. Thus, the famous Italian couturier Giorgio Armani acquired one of the most beautiful Greek islands - Skorpios.

The island of Skorpios is located in the Ionian Sea. It was there that the wedding of the Greek millionaire Aristotle Onassis and Jackie Kennedy took place. The family cemetery is also located here, where the Greek tycoon, his son Alexandros and daughter Christina are buried. Currently, no one lives on the island except for the attendants, local residents were evicted from there 50 years ago, tourists are not allowed. Every year, about 1.5 million euros are spent on maintaining the island's infrastructure.

According to some reports, according to the will of Aristotle Onassis, if the heirs cannot maintain the island, it goes to the Greek state, and the presidents of Greece can rest there, provided that the treasury pays for the maintenance of the buildings.

Last year, the heiress of the Onassis family, 24-year-old Athena Onassis, decided to get rid of her personal island.

Ms. Onassis's fortune is estimated at more than 3 billion euros. She became a full-fledged heiress at the age of 21, while she rarely visits Greece and the island. The girl grew up in Switzerland and does not speak Greek. Her husband is the Brazilian jockey Alvar Doda Alfonso de Miranda Neto. The couple prefers to live modestly, without spending money on luxury hotels, restaurants and yachts.

According to ANSA, the island of Scorpios was sold for an amount that, according to various media estimates, could reach 150 million euros.

Among the contenders for the purchase of the island were Microsoft founder Bill Gates, Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich and singer Madonna, but Armani offered the best price.
