There is mourning in Hollywood. Famous director, horror master, producer and screenwriter Wes Craven has passed away. For the past few years, 76-year-old Kraven has been battling brain cancer. The director died at his home in Los Angeles, surrounded by his family.

The director was born in 1939 in the American city of Cleveland. In his youth he studied literature and psychology. After a divorce from his first wife, he moved to New York, where he worked for a while as a taxi driver, then got a job as a sound engineer.
Craven made his debut with the painting "The Last House on the Left" (1972). A horror film about teenage girls kidnapped by gangsters who escaped from prison, grossed more than $ 3 million at the box office with a budget of less than $ 100,000. "This is one of the greatest films, and I'm afraid it would be banned today," famous director Ang Lee once remarked.
According to the director, the idea for a film about Freddie, who became one of the most famous maniacs in the cinema of the twentieth century, came to his mind when Wes lived near the cemetery on Elm Street in Cleveland.
However, one of Craven's most famous works was the horror film A Nightmare on Elm Street about a guy with razor fingers. The first tape of the franchise was presented in 1984, and since then the name of the maniac Freddy Krueger has become a household name. Another film by Wes, "Scream", filmed in 1996, also marked the beginning of the series of horror films of the same name.
In total, the filmmaker has shot about 30 films during his career. The last work was the film "Take My Soul" (2010).
