According to one of the popular signs, people of tall stature do not differ in a serious level of intelligence. Like, the mind has gone to growth. However, Scottish scientists decided to find out this issue empirically and came to a completely opposite conclusion. According to them, usually short people cannot boast of a sharp mind.

A group of scientists from the University of Aberdeen and University College London studied the DNA of more than 6, 8 thousand unrelated people. Previous studies have involved twins and related people. Experts have identified the genes responsible for growth and intelligence, and analyzed the results.

Earlier, scientists from Princeton University followed children born in 1958 and 1970 throughout their lives, and it turned out that in most cases, tall people choose high-paying professions. According to experts, the link between growth and intelligence may be explained by the fact that before the age of three, when the future ability to learn is formed, children who eat better and receive more attention from their parents not only develop, but also grow faster.

“We found some connection showing that tall people tend to be smarter than short people,” Riccardo Marioni, a spokesman for the Department of Genetics and Molecular Medicine at the University of Edinburgh, told reporters. "We found a definite relationship between genetically determined human growth and his level of intelligence."

As Ytro.ru specifies, the researchers based their findings on data collected from thousands of people tested between 2006 and 2011. IQ was measured using questions on reaction speed and linguistic ability.

According to scientists, about 70% of the links between growth and IQ level can be explained by genetics, and the remaining 30% - by the influence of external factors.
