Russians are very fond of the New Year holidays. If you know how we rest on New Year's holidays in 2021, how many days off will be officially in January, then you can make your own plans.

Winter vacation

Until 2012, this concept did not exist. It was at this time that such a long celebration of the New Year was introduced by the authorities into the text of the Labor Code of the Russian Federation.

The desire of citizens to celebrate the holiday with their families led to such changes in legislation. The authorities decided to meet the wishes of the people. They can spend a small vacation without taking time off or vacation. On average, "New Year's holidays" last for 8-10 days.

How we rest on New Year's holidays is determined by what days of the week will be January 1 and 7. Looking at the calendar, we can definitely say that there will be many days off in January in 2021 - as many as 16. Only 15 days this month will have to go to work.

January 1, 2021 falls on Friday. Presumably, the holidays will be extended, since January 2 and 3 fall on the weekend. Some politicians are already claiming that the Russians will rest for 12 days, which is a lot.

The authorities are thinking about postponing the 2-3 days of holidays to May. There is no official clarification on this issue yet. Perhaps we will find out about this in the very near future.

Which days are listed in the Labor Code

The Labor Code of the Russian Federation strictly fixes how the rest of citizens will continue in the first days of the year:

  • January 1 - New Years celebration;
  • January 2-6 - official days off;
  • January 7 - Nativity of Christ;
  • January 8 is an official day off.

Since January 9-10 in 2021 falls on Saturday and Sunday, it is possible that the Russians will celebrate 10 days.

Traditionally, on December 31st, citizens work. It is legally allowed to reduce the time spent at the workplace by 1 hour. In agreement with the management, people can work this day on any Saturday in December 2020.

Last year, deputies of the State Duma came up with an initiative to start the New Year holidays from December 31. While the debate is underway. The decision will be announced to citizens in October. This was announced quite recently by the leader of the Liberal Democratic Party Vladimir Zhirinovsky.

It also became known that in case of a positive decision to include December 31 in the New Year holidays, it will be officially enshrined in the Labor Code of the Russian Federation.

How much will we work in January next year

During the January period, the Russians will work only 15 days. If the working day is 8 hours, then in total you will have to work 120 hours a month.

With a 36-hour work week, you will work 108 hours a month. With a shortened week this month, you only have to work 72 hours.

Rumors about a possible shortening of the holiday period

The interest of Russians in the question of how we rest for the New Year holidays in 2021 was spurred on by an initiative put forward by some deputies of the State Duma. If supported, January weekends will be shortened.

The media retells this idea in different ways. They agree on one thing - in 2021 there will be a reduction in the New Year holidays. They will last only three days, including Saturday and Sunday. It is not supposed to cancel and celebrate the Nativity of Christ. This holiday is traditionally celebrated in our country on January 7th.

The idea was proposed by Senator A. V. Kutepov. He is confident that such a measure can make up for the economic problems caused by the coronavirus infection.

According to analysts, this will help improve the situation slightly. But it is not yet clear how the situation with the second wave of the coronavirus epidemic will develop in the autumn-winter period.

A. Kutepov also says that if his idea is accepted, the Russians will be able to celebrate the Christmas holidays. In 2021, Christmas falls on Thursday. And January 9 and 10 - on Saturday and Sunday. Friday will also be referred to as Christmas break. This will give people the opportunity to make up for the lack of New Year celebration and rest for 4 days.

So far this issue has not been considered in the State Duma. Many deputies are against this initiative of A. Kutepov. They say that it is impossible to replenish the time lost during the high alert mode in 4 days, so holidays should be celebrated, as enshrined in the Labor Code of the Russian Federation, taking into account weekends.

You should not gorge on too much during the winter holidays, so as not to gain extra pounds. It will be difficult to get rid of them later.

Do not plan large-scale events on weekdays in January. After a long holiday period, the body is so relaxed that it will take some time to get into work.

The question of how we rest on New Year's holidays worries many Russians. There will be more days off in January 2021 than working days.
