January has the largest number of holidays and weekends every year. The Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Population of Russia has already determined how long the 2021 New Year holidays will last.

Number of working days in January

In total, there are 15 days to work in January 2021. At the same time, the norms of working hours for the second winter month directly depend on the number of working hours. Next year they will remain the same as in 2020:

• 40-hour week (8 working hours per day) - 120 working hours;
• 36-hour week (7, 2 working hours per day) - 108;
• 24-hour week (4, 8 working hours) - 72.

The length of the working week is established by the legal acts of the organization (collective agreement, internal labor regulations, etc.).

Weekend schedule for five and six day workweeks

Regardless of the number of working days per week, the schedule for the New Year holidays is the same for everyone. The six-day work week is usually set in food service outlets, shops, hospitals and educational institutions. Employees of all organizations go to work on the same day - January 11, regardless of the length of the working week.

Will it be a day off on December 31

Despite the fact that many citizens hoped for a day off on December 31, the government decided to leave it working. At the same time, organizations are given the opportunity to make it short. But December 31, 2021, to the delight of many, is already included in the list of days off.

According to the Labor Code, the pre-holiday day can be reduced by 1 hour, but the company's management has the right to independently determine the number of working hours on this day.

Will the duration of the New Year holidays be shortened?

Andrey Kutepov, a member of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, recently came up with a proposal to shorten the weekend in January 2021. His position is due to the fact that, against the backdrop of the COVID-19 pandemic, compensation for non-working days during quarantine is required. But the Ministry of Labor did not support his initiative.

Can they call to work during the New Year holidays

Not all organizations can afford long vacations, especially those that work on shifts or provide livelihoods for the population. These areas include:

• power supply;
• heat and water supply;
• public transport;
• hospitals;
• pharmacies;
• credit organizations;
• shops, etc.

In other institutions, according to article 113 of the Labor Code, an employee cannot be called to work on holidays and weekends without his consent.

The exception is unforeseen circumstances - urgent work in an emergency, elimination of the consequences of an accident or catastrophe, etc. In this case, the management is obliged to notify not only the called employee, but also the entire team.

Normative legal documents

Each organization or institution is required to draw up an order, which should approve the schedule for the New Year holidays. It is published on the official letterhead of the company and contains the following information:

• number of days off;
• the date of the start of the holiday;
• day of going to work;
• order number;
• date of adoption;
• signature of management or acting.

All employees must be sure to familiarize themselves with the order in person or via corporate e-mail.

How many days do we rest on New Year's holidays in Russia

Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin signed a decree regulating the duration of the weekend in January 2021. The schedule indicates that the Russians will have a rest from 1 (Friday) to 10 (Sunday) January inclusive.

As for the school New Year holidays, the duration has not yet been determined. According to preliminary data, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, their duration may be increased.

When we go to work

After the New Year holidays, Russian citizens will have to go to work on January 11, 2021, on Monday.

Is it worth taking a vacation

Russians prefer to take vacations during the summer months, but not all employees have access to this luxury. Most often, the vacation schedule is drawn up at the enterprise for the whole year, and the employee can rest only in the month assigned to him. In another period, leave may be legally denied. The only exception is maternity leave and parental leave for a child under the age of 1, 5 years.

If a well-deserved weekend falls in the winter period, then it is recommended not to take into account January. This month is one of the most economically disadvantageous in terms of vacation. This is due to the small number of working days, due to which not only will there be small vacation pay, but also the New Year holidays will be "lost", since they will be included in the vacation.

Despite the fact that some members of the government have already proposed several times to shorten the New Year holidays, the holidays remain as long as before. On average, they last 8-10 days annually. There are no preconditions that they will be cut next year.
