Nikolai Tsiskaridze officially became the rector of the Vaganovsky school

The famous ballet dancer Nikolai Tsiskaridze accepts numerous congratulations. Last Saturday Nikolai Maksimovich was elected to the post of rector of the Vaganovsky school. Tsiskaridze has already stated that his main goal is to continue working for the glory of ballet.

Last summer, Tsiskaridze left the Bolshoi Theater amid a conflict with former Bolshoi Theater director Anatoly Iksanov, and in the fall he was appointed acting rector of the Vaganova Academy of Russian Ballet. A year later, elections were held, and the former prime minister was certified and recommended for election by a commission of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation.

“The elections were held democratically, 227 people voted for the candidacy of Nikolai Tsiskaridze, and 17 against them. We believe that the labor collective made the right choice. Nikolai Tsiskaridze is able to train world-class stars,”Deputy Minister of Culture Grigory Ivliev told reporters.

The Vaganova Academy of Russian Ballet is the oldest ballet school in Russia and one of the best professional schools in the world. This year marks the 276th anniversary of its foundation. “I have always said that there are only three schools in the world. If you want to be a real ballet dancer, you need to study in Paris, Petersburg, Moscow. That's it, they are no longer there. These are the three main centers of ballet culture,”Tsiskaridze said in an interview.

Tsiskaridze himself stressed that he does not plan to make serious changes in the work of the Vaganov school. “I don’t think we need to change anything, we need to carefully preserve it. Ballet has been taught on this territory for much longer than some states exist”.

“As I have worked this year, I will continue to work for the glory of my favorite ballet. I was just acting, and now I am the rector. That's all. Already officially, when I sign a new agreement with the Ministry, I myself will have completely different rights as a person,”added Nikolai Maksimovich.
