Why do some children remember everything they like with lightning speed, while for others learning a poem is a real problem?

In those families where loved ones often and a lot talk with the baby, sing songs to him and recite rhymes, the baby already at one year old sways funny and gasps to the rhythm of the poem "A bull is walking, swinging." But there are also children for whom memorizing a verse is a real test. Why? Most likely, because they teach incorrectly.

We will tell you how to learn poetry with a child, taking into account his age, temperament, psychological characteristics and even literary preferences.

Tip # 1

In order for the child to easily memorize the rhyme, it is necessary to acquaint him with the "music" of the poem as early as possible. The kid is still in the stroller, and you are already reading to him the rhythmic "Our Tanya is crying loudly" or "Geese, geese, ha-ha-ha!". As they grow older, this very first, subconscious experience will allow the child to go through the learning process much easier.

The most favorable age for learning poetry is 4-5 yearswhen the memory starts to develop at a rapid pace. And if earlier we simply read the works to the kid - yes, he will remember something, then after four years the conscious memorization of the text begins by heart. Learning as much as possible is the best way to build the right amount of memory for further learning!

Council number 2

Emotionally and with expression - this is how the poem should be learned, otherwise it will lose all meaning for the child. Sometimes kindergarten teachers mistakenly teach children to read inexpressive poetry. Collective memorization turns into a continuous "Na-na, na-na, na-na, na-na …" So take the situation into your own hands and try to learn poetry individually! If the kid does not learn the beauty of poetry in childhood, then it is unlikely that he will turn to it in adulthood.

Tip # 3

If the poem matches the temperament and age of the child, it will be easier to learn. You shouldn't force a four-year-old to memorize excerpts from Eugene Onegin. Learn with him better children's classics - Barto, Chukovsky, Mikhalkov. It is better for calm children to offer poems smooth, measured, but funny, rhythmic texts are suitable for fidgets. While they are just learning, then listen to the child's temperament, because at school no one will reckon with the peculiarities of your baby.

Tip # 4

An important point: at an early age, a learned work must necessarily be a gift for someone.

An important point: at an early age, a learned work must necessarily be for someone a gift … Dedicate it to your mom, grandmother, aunt or Santa Claus. Only at the age of 7-8 will the child begin to realize that poetry can and should be taught for his own pleasure.

Tip # 5

Before starting the lesson, read the text itself with the expression, or rather memorize it. Then be sure to find places in the text that are incomprehensible to the child or unfamiliar words and explain their meaning. After that, you need to read the poem again - slowly and with semantic accents. After the second reading, tell your child about who wrote this wonderful work and when, show the illustrations in the book. And while the child is looking at them, read the text again.

This approach teaches the child to perceive poetry easier: he gradually the artistic image of the poem is formed … Well, after the preparatory work, you can start the memorization process.

Tip # 6

Some of us memorize poems more easily by ear, others - when they walk around the room to the rhythm of a poem, the third certainly need to read the text themselves several times, well, while the fourth needs complete silence and stillness. It depends on which method is easier for a person to memorize a poem.

Methods for memorizing poems:

  • Auditory. The most common method, it is usually used in kindergarten. First, each verse is memorized, and then the whole verse. Here comes the auditory reliance on rhyme.
  • Visual. It is often confused with the usual display of book pictures. In fact, you create a simple "picture plan" in front of the child while learning the verse. That is, you read a line and depict what is being discussed, separating each picture in the figure with a horizontal line. And then, according to this plan, the kid recites a poem several times.
  • Motor. The method consists in the fact that the child reinforces memorization with a motor act. So, you can take a thick thread and "wind the rhyme into a ball", repeating line by line. And then unwind it. Then he hides his hands behind his back and pretends to reel in a ball. As an option - string beads, pyramid, buttons.
  • Logical. After the preparatory work, read the first lines of the poem, then stop and ask the kid to tell what happened next in his own words. Then read from the point where the child stopped, and then let him continue again. Here the child relies on semantic connections and gradually memorizes the text.

Try each method in turn, and you will see how your little one can learn more easily. By the way, this is how we can conclude which type of memory in a child is paramount. Or maybe you will use several methods, because the main thing is the result.

Tip # 7

And the last tip: draw with a crumb of each learned work. Create your author's illustration to it, sign the author and title. And then put these drawings in a separate folder. In the future, it will be so nice to look at them with loved ones and remember previously learned poems!

This is a great way to motivate a kid to replenish literary knowledge, and at the same time a kind of calculation of his achievements.
