In the Arab world, a growing number of women are losing their virginity before marriage. At the same time, it is still considered a shame here to marry a non-virgin. The cost of an operation to restore the hymen here is about 10 thousand dirhams (about $ 2800). For comparison: in Russia, similar operations are done for $ 400-500. The operation lasts about one and a half hours, the recovery period after it takes no more than two hours.

The Arab girl, who for obvious reasons did not want to give her name, told Gulfnews.com that she was engaged, and her fiancé does not know that she already had a lover. “I’m waiting for my salary to have the operation,” she says. - My fiance is still away. By the time he returns, I will have had the operation."

Recently, virginity restoration surgeries have been the subject of political debate. Liberals and Islamists argue to what extent these feminine tricks correspond to the letter of local law.

Dubai law prohibits unmarried women from having hymen suture operations for religiously conservative reasons, but allows married women to do so.

The Dean of the Faculty of Law at the University of Dubai is critical of this section of the law. “This operation belongs to the field of plastic surgery, so it is legal. It is not intended to cover up a crime or defraud a third party,”he says.

But Sheikh Ahmad Qubaysi, who enjoys great prestige among the believers of the UAE, considers operations to restore virginity illegal: "The one who is involved in the concealment of the crime is himself a criminal."
