The number of Russian applicants wishing to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest is growing at a frantic pace. Only recently a small scandal arose over the unscheduled inclusion of Sergei Lazarev in the list of contestants, and then it turns out that there is another replenishment in the ranks of applicants. Belarusian singer Polina Smolova was among the participants of the Russian qualifying stage of the Eurovision-2008 contest.

Polina Smolova's career began with participation in children's folklore groups. Polina sang in the children's folklore theater "Gostsitsa", the ensemble of the Belarusian folk song "Zhavaronachki". The performer graduated from a music school in the piano class, a music school named after V. I. Glinka, department of solo folk singing of the Belarusian State University of Culture and Art. She led the children's ensemble of the Belarusian folk song "Tsernichka". Polina is an artist of the Youth Variety Theater, a soloist of the orchestra of the GUVD.

The influential businessman Viktor Baturin, whose name has regularly appeared in the columns "show business" and "scandals" of domestic publications for the last couple of months, has managed to defend the honor of his protege. Prior to this, Smolova's candidacy was in question due to the fact that she was late with the application, reports Komsomolskaya Pravda.

The girl will perform with the composition "At a Breathing Distance". The words for the song of the performer were written by Baturin himself. The sound producer of the composition was Alexander Gradsky. What will be presented as a show is still unknown. “This news was a pleasant surprise for me,” the singer admitted to the website eurovision.by. - Now I'm starting to prepare for the final selection!"

“I thank the Rossiya channel for your understanding,” said Viktor Baturin. - And I promise, as a token of gratitude, not to insist on the exclusion of Dima Bilan from the competition. May the worthy win in a fair fight!"

I must say that it is not the first time for Dima and Polina to compete at Eurovision. Smolova performed at the competition in 2006, then she represented Belarus. In Athens, the girl took the penultimate place in the semifinals. Bilan took 2nd place at Eurovision-2006.
