“He is an energetic vampire,” they say about an unpleasant person. It is generally accepted that this "vampirism" is from the foggy area of that everyday mysticism, in which grandmothers-fortune tellers and other figures from esotericism are well versed. Someone sincerely believes in "energy vampires", someone laughs at superstitions. But smoke without fire, as you know, does not exist - can this concept be explained from the standpoint of psychology? Let's try.

Imagine your capacity for strong emotions at the beginning of the day (especially if you got enough sleep) and at the end of it - will it be different? Undoubtedly. Especially if you have spent the day working. At the end of the day, lying on your feet from fatigue, you are unlikely to jump with delight, even if you suddenly find a sumptuous dinner prepared in your honor on the table. In general, the more tired a person is, the less his ability to experience emotions. This means that there is a connection between emotions and energy. More precisely, our emotions are, in a certain sense, energy. Lack of energy generates the opposite process: a person sometimes tries to evoke emotions in himself artificially in order to feel less tired and create at least a feeling of a surge of strength in himself (which is quite possible due to a short-term release of adrenaline into the bloodstream). And here a tired person suffering from a constant lack of strength finds a solution - to cause an emotional outburst. And get at least the illusion of a surge of strength.

Analyzing their situation, I had to admit that there was a literal "siphoning of energy" from husband by wife. The microstroke became a solid confirmation of this. Oleg admitted that after such provocations he felt weak, lethargic, and often became incapable of intimacy.

What's happened? In fact, his wife had little strength. Kira, being a sickly child from childhood, had a hard time enduring both pregnancies, but she really wanted the family to be complete, and she tried as best she could. I didn't have enough strength. And the subconscious suggested a way out - strong emotions. The screams of her husband gave her the desired emotional shake-up, and after her she could devote some more time to household chores or be able to enjoy sex. If there was no shake-up, Kira all evening felt herself rolled off her feet and fell asleep on the go. She is real "energetic vampire".

There is another side of vampirism - purely psychological, associated not so much with pumping emotions as with unconscious processes in people.

It is possible to torment a person not only by provocations, but simply by the inability and unwillingness to live and be happy. What's the mechanism here? The man put energy into his endeavors, physical strength, health, worked, dreamed of a house outside the city. The invested forces are energy, and it should go where it was intended. Home, for general happiness. Now imagine that someone devalues all of a person's attempts to become happy. How did the man feel? Annoyance, frustration, discomfort. And this gave rise to fatigue, namely physical fatigue.

A person is designed like a rechargeable battery: he needs a motive that will give him emotions, because emotions recharge us with energy along with food and sleep. And full of these emotions, he will again, driven by his own motive, invest in achieving the goals set, get tired with healthy fatigue, and rest with a sense of satisfaction. If this chain is broken, if someone tells you that everything you do is unnecessary and does not lead anywhere, the functioning of the battery is broken. Such an important component of the work of the psyche as a motive disappears. Which gives positive emotions, and therefore a significant part of the energy. Have you noticed that people who want something are always stronger than those who have few desires? And what is the opposite - a person who does not want anything, as a rule, gets chronically tired?

Do you believe in God?

Yes, I do, and I go to church regularly.
I believe, but, unfortunately, I hardly go to church.
I'm not a Christian. I believe in higher powers.
This is a difficult question, I have not decided.
I don’t believe it, I’m an atheist.

But what if you yourself feel tired and depressed? First, deal with the reasons. Work with a psychologist or psychotherapist to eliminate them.

In addition, there are completely safe and effective ways to restore energy balance. For example, walking in nature (if you believe in these things, you can touch the trees or stand with your bare feet on the ground in warm weather). There are gymnastics such as chi-gong or tai-chi-chuan, which can now be found in almost every fitness club. And for believers, a visit to the temple can become a recharge - from time immemorial, churches were built on "places of power." You can not believe in all this - you just need to try and look for your own way. He will surely be found. And you will cease to be "Energy vampire".
