You shouldn't expect much from The Old Man (2019), this is a kind and light comedy, and, judging by the description, it is not at all instructive - the main character of the film (played by the actor Kad Merad) does stupid things in his 50 years, and that's all gets away with it, so reviews and reviews can be filled with criticism of the plot and idea. But "Handsome" is better to look at with an open mind, being ready to laugh at "unfunny" jokes and sometimes even at oneself. In any case, everyone will see something of their own in the film.

Build a career as a gigolo

The main character Alex (Kad Merad), seeing how his father dies because of too hard work, promises himself not to work a day in his life, to devote it to pleasures. He decides to earn money without working a day. So all the years of his life pass, and now Alex has already turned into an old gigolo, ignorant and superficial. At first, the hero does not cause any sympathy at all, and you are even glad that Denis, the woman at whose expense Alex lived all these years, is putting her old lover out on the street. And when he, like a "shot down pilot", goes to live with his younger sister with his nephew, you don't feel a single gram of sympathy at all.

The downside of the picture is that the main meaning is barely perceptible. What questions did the director try to raise? The importance of family values, friendship and betrayal, or victory over oneself and self-sufficiency? Probably all at once, but none of the questions are deeply disclosed.

There is not a grain of moralizing in "Handsome with the experience". The viewer expects the whole film, that the hero will come to his senses and find himself in some profession, because, even despite his age and laziness, Alex has his own talents and abilities. He is resourceful and charming, he manages to inspire people and instill faith in them. And after all, he could become a successful PR man, advertiser and even a sales manager. But this never happens, and Alex will once again start an affair with a young lady of respectable age with no less solid wallet size. And after all, his new passion is the former woman of his best friend, so what lesson should the viewer learn? Don't work, betray your friends and live for self-interest?

Not at all, "Handsome" does not pretend to be an instructive and philosophical tape. This is a light comedy with a beautiful picture and talented actors. Relax and joke - isn't that what we need today? The film will remind you that all people, women and men, are beautiful at any age. Whether it's 13 or 60, the main thing is not to grow old in spirit.
