Secrets of a successful resume
Secrets of a successful resume

How does the acquaintance of a potential employer with an applicant for an open vacancy begin? Of course, in some cases with common acquaintances and family ties, but now we will not talk about the so-called pull, but about the usual process of employment. The first impression about a candidate is naturally formed on the basis of his resume. And you should try to make it as attractive as possible so that the employer wants to meet you in person.

How many great candidates don't even get an interview because their résumé looks worse than a poor student’s essay. The point is not at all in literacy (although it is certainly important, and we will talk about it later), but in the fact that the cat cried with high-quality and useful information in such a "professional essay". Recruiters say they won't consider an applicant's resume if they haven't even bothered to list the title of the position they're applying for. In addition, personnel officers are very amused when they see in a document sent to them a description of skills that are completely irrelevant. For example, there are applicants who believe that "the ability to dress stylishly and beautifully" will certainly come in handy in the work of an accountant. Of course, a woman holding such a position (in principle, like any other) should look neat and stylish, but it is not at all necessary to write about this in her resume. Well, and finally, HR managers will put aside (or throw in the trash can) a real essay or autobiography on several sheets, since no recruiter has time to re-read the life story of each applicant (and in large companies there are hundreds of such), looking for information required for a specific position.

So, you have decided to send your resume for consideration to an organization that you have been dreaming of for a long time. Agree, you don't want to miss such a chance at all. That is why now you should concentrate as much as possible and use our tips to create a truly attractive “business card” so that in a few days you will hear a phone call and receive an invitation for an interview.

No smilies

Perhaps, communicating on social networks, you are used to putting brackets and colons after each sentence, because this is the only way to show the interlocutor in what mood you are writing this or that message, but in such a serious document as a resume, try to do without emoticons. Yes, it seems to you that these cute "smiles" can revive the boring and dry text of your story about yourself, but this is a misconception. Most recruiters and executives view this "creativity" as a familiar attitude towards a potential employer. Remember, a resume is a way to make a name for yourself, but not befriend a potential boss.

Contact Information

Another joke that HR people tell: “It's very difficult to take a job seeker seriously if his email address looks like stervochka87 or pikachu221133. Immediately imagine that a lady in stockings and with bright red lipstick or an anime lover in a Pokemon costume will come to the interview. Of course, such candidates lose to those who do not call themselves babies, bunnies or cartoon characters. Therefore, create a new mailbox, in the title of which write your first and last name, and place it on your resume. Also, do not forget to indicate the contact phone number, most likely, it is on it that they will call you if they want to invite you to a personal meeting.

No recruiter will be interested in meeting a candidate who distorts even the word "resume".

"Education", "Resume" and "Professional skills"

We've already mentioned that a resume with more errors than correct words is a failure, but let's say it again. No recruiter will be interested in meeting a candidate who distorts even the word "resume". All the same, whatever you say, but literate people inspire much more confidence than those who obviously did not receive anything higher than a three in their life in the Russian language. Therefore, check carefully what you have written. Do not ignore the red underline in Word, seek help from a grammar site, be careful. And be sure to re-read your resume several times before submitting, sometimes even an accidental typo can lead to rejection.

Do not spread your thoughts along the tree

The recruiter doesn't really care where you were born, baptized, and married. He needs to know whether you meet the stated requirements, whether you have the necessary work experience, whether you have the skills that will be useful to the future employee. The rest is just water, which can significantly tarnish your reputation. Therefore, try not to write what is not relevant, but present information in essence in a readable form: break it down into paragraphs and sections, highlight the main thing in italics or bold - in general, help the personnel officer see in you exactly what he is looking for.

In a photograph accompanying such a serious document, you should look presentable and neat.

Unofficial photo

Of course, it would never occur to anyone to post a photo in the resume where the applicant is standing with a glass of champagne in his hands, surrounded by a large friendly family, and also to sign on the side: "I am the third from the left in a blue dress." However, there are also those who do not distinguish between a photo suitable for a resume and those that should be kept exclusively in personal albums or on pages in social networks. In a photograph accompanying such a serious document, you should look presentable and neat. A smile will not be superfluous, but it is better to forget about revealing outfits. A discreet style of dress is better suited for this kind of photography.

Expert comments, psychologist-consultant, HR specialist Natalia Crayer:

When your resume from hundreds of others was nevertheless chosen, called and invited, we can say that you have passed the initial selection stage. Now the most important thing is to establish contact with the recruiter. It will depend on his decision whether a meeting with the manager happens or he never finds out about you. An interview is like a first date: either yes or no … Everything is important here: appearance, voice, and even the smell of perfume. If your tastes with the recruiter do not match, then consider yourself flying. It is important not to overdo it with perfume, not to be excessive and much, much more. And this is all taking into account that you, of course, have all the necessary skills. Show interest in the company, in the product … Speak more modestly about yourself, but speak about the organization with fierce curiosity. It is always felt when the applicant really wants to work. Well, the sparkle in the eyes can overshadow any inaccuracies in your resume."
