Dreams, one might say, come true. As American scientists assure, weight-watchers do not have to give up chocolate. Moreover, according to recent studies, lovers of the popular treat tend to be slimmer than their peers who do not consume chocolate at all.

Research has shown that moderate doses of chocolate contain an optimal concentration of compounds that accelerate metabolism, increase cell energy efficiency and reduce calories.

One theory is that cocoa helps strengthen and increase the number of mitochondria in cells. Plus, chocolate reduces the indicators of cellular stress, which threatens a set of calories (in extreme conditions, the body begins to store fat). According to scientists, the ideal option for humans is five grams of dark chocolate with 60-70% cocoa content.

Experts from the University of California, led by Beatrice Golomb (Beatrice Golomb), analyzed more than 1000 healthy people, whose body mass index ranged from 17 (underweight) to 50 (over 30 is diagnosed as obese). The results were as follows: people who consumed chocolate five or more times a week had a BMI one point lower than those who did not like chocolate at all. Moreover, the first group was able to consume fewer calories overall.

"Many nutritionists assume that chocolate contains a ton of bad calories that can negatively impact BMI," says Dr. Golomb. “But the results of our research show that this is actually not the case. While more research is of course required, at least now people may not feel guilty about eating a couple of chocolate bars. Yes, and now I can safely say that chocolate is my favorite delicacy."
