It's amazing how many tricks our advertisers use to get us to buy their product! And what only we are not ready to believe, if only "everyone was delighted with us."

Let's take an advertisement for beauty products. Beautifully made, with the participation of perfectly slender models who easily conquer real macho, she calls that: listen, believe me, buy, become the same! And we watch, holding our breath, counting in our minds how many days it will take to work at work with a cup of tea instead of lunch to buy the advertised moisturizer. But if we just needed a cream! No, we need a feeling of a beautiful life, Parisian chic, we need to feel like an expensive and sleek woman who "deserves it!" My God, what a terrible delusion!

As soon as I started making good money, I started buying expensive cosmetics. Cream - from Garnier, tonic - from Nivea, foundation - from Max Factor, mascara - from Margaret Astor, lipstick - from Loreal. These nifty little things were pretty damn nice to use, but you get used to them quickly. And, alas, spending about a third of my salary on makeup and skin care, I did not gain confidence in myself. Because there were my friends nearby, who were smeared with cream for 9 rubles and looked like princesses. And the person for whom I wanted to become the most elegant and sexiest did not react in any way to my two thousand perfume or my lips, covered with long-lasting lipstick for seventeen dollars. And despite the assurances of the advertising beauty, cooing: "He likes to touch my skin," - he did not often strive to touch me, fragrant with the most delicate lotion from that very advertisement. He just didn't love me.

Wisdom cost me dear: for the same money it was possible to thoroughly correct my French. But now I have become much more circumspect. I do not understand those who spend large sums on small things just in order to create the illusion of a rich life. What's the point of buying a Versace handkerchief if no one but you sees the coveted label? Why pay for fiction, for the myth of their own irresistibility, which advertisers call the "additional effect of advertising" and deliberately sell along with every prestigious product? After all, so much has been written about the fact that the beauty of a woman begins with her soul.

Now I'm not trying to raise my own self-esteem with the help of elite cosmetics. I buy a ticket to British cinema without translation, and the realization of how great I know English gives my eyes just as much sparkle as super-lengthening mascara or wet-effect shadows. I try to get enough sleep - and in the morning my skin is so fresh that it doesn't need any special cream. I stopped pushing sellers in search of a miraculous eyelid gel ("not for wrinkles, but for my age"), because I realized that at 21 you can think about much more pleasant things than expecting old age in "twenty" years.

I think I owe all this to my beloved. With his appearance in my life, I became not only happier - I became smarter. It never occurred to me to wake up before him and, having put on makeup, climb back into bed and pretend that it was. And I didn't buy waterproof mascara specifically for going to the pool together. In the morning, seeing me without makeup, he is not afraid. He says: "Len, how beautiful you are." And I believe him, because I am really beautiful. Even without all those expensive things. Instead, I bought myself a stunning set of underwear, and this is my favorite, of course, I appreciated, and how! And about all the advertising stuff: he always likes to touch me. Because he loves me.
