To use her sadistic inclinations, a woman has enough hair on various parts of her body. Whether we inherited vegetation from distant ancestors, monkeys, is not important. The point is different: the hairs created by Mother Nature, women (prone to masochism) pull out, pluck, set fire to, pull out, harass with chemistry, strive to make them smooth, curly, invisible …

History and technological progress have given us a lot of tools to fight unwanted hairs: tweezers, wax, a blade … and buzzing depilatory machines with moving legs …

Times are changing, the ideals of beauty are changing, but the problem of removing hair from the skin remains as difficult to solve as it was two to three thousand years ago. Since ancient times, especially in the East, it was considered and is considered indecent for a woman to have a "hairy" body.

The Queen of Egypt, Nefertiti, invented a recipe for a special plant mass that solidifies on the body, which was then plucked like a second skin, removing the hairs.

In harems, hair removal was considered routine and was carried out regularly.

In ancient Rome, at the city baths, in special rooms, all hair on the body was removed using the following method: the hair was twisted onto a strong coarse thread and pulled out mercilessly.

Modern methods have not gone so far from these methods: we owe Nefertiti the principle of waxing and shugaring (read further), and the ancient Roman version is the essence of the action of home depilators.

But wherever technical progress strives, almost all today's methods of hair removal are barbaric in nature and questionable in terms of the final result and its duration. All of them are long-term, painful, do not exclude complications, and some also stimulate subsequent hair growth: often visible hair is removed, and the process of hair formation and growth is not affected.

It turns out according to the well-known everyday principle: what we fought for, we ran into it - the problem is not radically solved, but, on the contrary, is getting worse.

However, first things first.

Among girls who do not complain about thick hair, it is common lightening (bleaching) hair on the legs - a chemical method, which is especially recommended until the age of 21-25, since the use of chemical depilatory creams is undesirable until the end of puberty.

Lightening is effective for sparse dark hair on the face and body. A cream or liquid brightener is applied to the skin and rinsed off after a certain time. Hair not only lightens, but also becomes brittle. To avoid skin irritation, you can first try the clarifier on a small area.

If there is not much hair, then it is better to discolor them with 5-10% hydrogen peroxide and perhydrol (50% hydrogen peroxide). To do this, rub the hair several times a day with a cotton swab dipped in a small amount of hydrogen peroxide, to which a few drops of ammonia are added before use.

When using perhydrol, it is diluted with water in a ratio of 1: 5 or better 1:10. Compresses from this solution are applied for 1-2 hours every day until the hair is discolored. To maintain discoloration, the compresses are repeated for 3-4 days.

You can order from the pharmacy an ointment consisting of antifebrin (0.5 g), anhydrous lanolin (10 g), petroleum jelly (20 g) and perhydrol (6 g). From prolonged use of this remedy, the hairs turn pale, dry out, become more and more fragile, brittle and then may even disappear.

With fine hairs, it helps mechanical method … It consists in rubbing the hair with a pumice stone. To achieve the best effect, apply 6% hydrogen peroxide to your skin and then rub with a pumice stone.

After hair removal, the skin is lubricated with cream. The procedure is repeated from time to time. But constant skin irritation is harmful and leads, unfortunately, to increased hair growth. They also grow tough.

The most affordable and common method for removing excess hair is shaving, but this method requires regularity: on average, torturing yourself with a razor must be repeated every week, and, in addition, depending on individual characteristics (the thickness and quality of the hair being removed, the speed of their growth), prickly bristles when touched are felt after a few hours or days.

The quantity and quality of hair on the human body is strictly individual. and depends on many factors:

- Nationalities (For example, among women of southern nationalities, as well as those in whose blood hot eastern genes have gotten, abundant growth of dark hair on the legs and arms, as well as vellus hair on the face, is the norm. Women in the central strip and north have a small amount of hair on their legs and hands is the norm).

- The level of sex hormones (with an increase in the level of male sex hormones in the body of women, for example, during menopause, hair growth on some parts of the body increases).

- Hereditary traits, etc.

Situations of intensive hair growth on the face, back, chest (hirsutism and hypertrichosis), as well as the appearance of excessive hair growth in women who have not hitherto been noticed in excessive hairiness, should always be alarming. A similar symptom in combination with a violation of blood pressure, redistribution of fatty tissue in the upper half of the body is often a sign of serious adrenal diseases. The first specialist to be contacted in this case should be an endocrinologist.

But we are a little distracted.

Before you start shaving, you need to prepare your skin and hairs. Soften them with lather, leaving it on the skin for about five minutes; with very sensitive skin, you can leave the lather longer. It is better to use special shaving foam to prepare foam. It contains herbal ingredients that soften and disinfect even the most sensitive skin.

You can shave in the direction of hair growth or against growth. Shaving against hair growth is more thorough. After the procedure, wash off the remaining foam, rinse the skin with cold water. It closes pores and refreshes the skin. Then dry your feet and brush your skin with aftershave cream. It will relieve irritation and restore the protective film on the skin's surface.

Another popular home procedure is shugaring … This method uses a strong sugar solution that is applied to the surface of the skin and then removed with a cloth glued to a sticky solution. In principle, it also works waxing - hair removal with wax.

Now advertised with might and main. Hot wax is considered to be less painful than cold wax. As the warm wax warms up the skin, unwanted hair is removed much more easily and with less pain. Therefore, hot waxing is preferred for areas such as bikini and underarms.

As for the effectiveness of these two types of bioepilation, they are equivalent. The main factor that determines the quality and effectiveness of the procedure is knowledge of the technical subtleties of its implementation. First, stick to the rule: wax or wax strips should be applied according to hair growth, and removed against. Secondly, be sure to treat the epilated areas with alcohol-based lotion or talcum powder both before and after the procedure. After the procedure, you can still use a special tool that has a calming effect and also relieves irritation. And yet, if you purchase a special agent that inhibits hair growth, do not forget to use it during the period indicated in the annotation.

Be aware that waxing is contraindicated for some people, while others may need extra precautions before and after the procedure. Factors unfavorable for hair removal are the use of alpha-hydroxy acids, retinol (vitamin A), the tendency of hair to grow in, and the ingestion of certain drugs.

And more about wax. Since this method of hair deprivation is not painless, it is better for women who are at risk of terminating their pregnancy to avoid such stress. Experts treat hair removal with cream in different ways, some believe that certain ingredients can cause an allergic reaction in a woman, which will negatively affect the condition of the fetus (therefore, it is generally undesirable to use such agents), others are of the opinion that the cream is not contraindicated at all. So, pregnant women are offered cream and mousse, since the active component of the preparations works only at the level of hair keratin, without penetrating deep into the hair follicle and without even affecting the skin.

Many women, having succumbed to advertising, have already bought various electrical devices … But they just pluck the hair mechanically. When it comes to eliminating leg hair, these machines can only be used up to the knee, as the skin above is delicate and very painful to use. In addition, when plucking hair, they often leave the root, turning its direction, which leads to ingrowth of hair into the skin. The skin becomes inflamed, irritation, discomfort and deep body dissatisfaction appear.

"Advanced" electrical appliances, clamping each hair with a forceps, subject them to high-frequency vibrations, the energy of which is transmitted through the hair to the roots. The duration of the procedure increases sharply, and the effectiveness increases slightly.

The new development of the company is an epilator. The developer promises - not only effectively get rid of excess vegetation, but relieve painful sensations. The new technology will allow you to cool the skin before epilation using a removable ice container. When the skin is cooled to 21 degrees C, the threshold of pain sensitivity decreases and epilation is much easier to tolerate. Due to the low cost of the method, the device will not cost much more than conventional epilators.

By the way, the company now has an epilator with a special glove with a gel bag inside to cool the skin and a shaving head to remove hair in the armpits and in the bikini area, with an additional function of optitrim for shaving long hair. Although today the most effective and safe method of hair removal in the bikini area is photoepilation. In any case, a course of procedures (3-5 sessions) is required to achieve a lasting result.

On a note: after epilation with an electric epilator, a rather severe itching is felt. To soothe it and soften the skin, there are special post-epilation lotions.

Method enzyme hair removal appeared quite recently and consists in a thermochemical effect on the hair follicles. With the help of a special apparatus, the degree of exposure to the treated area is determined, depending on the type of skin. An enzyme-containing preparation is applied to the skin, which, under the influence of infrared radiation or ultrasound, penetrates the skin, stops the growth of hair germ cells and destroys the hair itself. The procedure is painless and lasts 50-60 minutes, after which the hair is removed with wax and the skin is treated with an after-epilation cream. In order for the hair to stop growing, an average of 5-7 sessions are required.

In order to avoid inflammatory reactions for several days after the procedure, direct contact with the treated areas of UV rays and water should be avoided.

Ultrasonic hair removal is a radical hair removal using a modern multi-program ultrasound machine and a special gel.

The procedure begins with wax depilation. Then the surface of the skin is treated with special compounds or a gel, the molecules and ions of which are then delivered to the deep layers of the dermis using ultrasonic action. Here they slow down the process of division of germ cells and even partially disrupt the hair follicle due to the alkaline pH.

In the first session, only those hair follicles that are in the active growth phase are eliminated. To achieve an optimal result, you will have to repeat the procedure several more times, as, however, with any type of hair removal. The first qualitative changes are observed approximately 12 months after the start of the procedures.

The main disadvantage is that hair removal preparations destroy, in addition to the hair follicles, the surrounding skin cells, since they cannot distinguish the germ cells of the hair from the cells of other tissues, and the plus is the painlessness of the procedure.

Contraindications are individual intolerance. In addition, treatment in the bikini area is not recommended.

It makes no sense to continue the story about other methods of getting rid of hair; Cleo once described them in detail. In any case, remember, whatever you choose, never hesitate to pre-disinfect the skin. Hair removal is a violation of the integrity of the skin, and the introduction of infection into the smallest wounds in the place of the hair follicles can cause complications. You should not neglect analgesic drugs that act locally, only on the area of the skin that is being epilated.

Your body is your business, but experts recommend combining different methods of hair removal, combining the options that are most optimal for each area. Well, there are plenty to choose from.
