Ivan Kirillovich (father) - an adherent of the ideas of communism, military by profession, participated in military operations against Japan, from where he returned with many awards. In peacetime he worked as a driver.

Nadezhda Furgal (mother) is a deeply religious person who worked in agriculture. Having raised ten children (6 girls and 4 boys), she earned the title of "Mother Heroine".

Since childhood, the boy dreamed of the sky and saw himself as a first-class pilot, but after the tragedy that happened to him at the age of 12, when he lost a finger, this dream had to be abandoned.

This path seemed too long for the young man, so it was decided to study to be a doctor. In 1992, Furgal received a diploma from the Blagoveshchensk State Medical Institute, and in 2010 he successfully completed his studies at the Academy of Civil Service of the Russian Federation.

The beginning of the work path

The young specialist spent the nineties in his native village, where he worked as an ordinary therapist and neurologist at a local clinic. But then he suddenly decided to drastically change the field of activity, considering medicine not a very profitable profession, and went into business.

Furgal in politics

The political biography of the ex-governor started in the mid-2000s, when he was elected a deputy of the regional parliament. From that moment on, Sergei was closely involved in politics and more than once took part in the elections, where he invariably won.

Since 2007, he has been a member of the lower house of the Federal Assembly, where he was elected as a member of the Liberal Democratic Party. According to some information, in parallel, the official was actively arranging his personal life and already had two children.

Until 2011, Furgal served as deputy chairman of the Committee for Federation Affairs and Regional Policy. At the same time, he was re-elected to the new composition of the lower house, and in the fall of 2016 he became deputy chairman of the health protection committee.

Experience in this area allowed Sergei Ivanovich to delve deeper into the problems of the health care system, which came in handy later when the official became the head of the region. Furgal won a landslide victory in the elections of the governor in the fall of 2018 and became the head of the Khabarovsk Territory.

First of all, he was interested in the state of medicine, especially in peripheral medicine. And Furgal immediately took up the organization of an ambulance and the problems of providing drugs to hospitals remote from the center.

He also supported the initiative of Vyacheslav Shport (a competitor in the gubernatorial elections) to provide elderly people with free travel in public transport. The corresponding law was promptly adopted by the regional Duma in the interval between the first and second round of elections.

Some municipalities successfully implemented it, but in the mayor's office of the regional capital, the idea did not find a response, as a result of which the project was disrupted. Another major undertaking by the new governor was a significant reduction in the cost of maintaining local officials, including Furgal himself, as well as his deputies.

On the contrary, he strengthened the financing of school canteens. Since September 2019, all students of the region - children from large and low-income families have been provided with full hot breakfasts. Whereas earlier, many guys could only afford tea with a bun.

Now, at the expense of the regional and municipal budgets, about 32 thousand schoolchildren belonging to the privileged category are fed. To do this, the governor had to overcome strong opposition from some municipalities who did not want to spend money on school meals.

In addition, Sergei Ivanovich began to work closely with the roads broken by heavy logging equipment, as well as the resettlement of citizens from emergency houses. It is not surprising that in the by-elections to the State Duma, which took place last fall, as well as the elections of the next composition of the parliament of the region and the city, the governor's party was supported by almost the entire electorate.

Personal life

Little is known about the parliamentarian's personal life, as well as about the biography of his companion, with whom he created a family. Starodubova Larisa Pavlovna is a co-owner of Torex LLC, which owns the Amurstal metallurgical plant.

At social events, Furgal is always alone and even visits the polling station alone during the elections. His wife accompanied him only once - at the inauguration ceremony.

In addition to Larisa and Sergei, their children live in the house with them: Anton, Ekaterina and Kirill, as well as several dogs and cats that were picked up on the street, thereby saving them from certain death. Furgal's eldest son Anton, born in 1991, followed in his father's footsteps and also joined the Liberal Democratic Party.
