The famous novel by Leo Tolstoy "Anna Karenina" about the tragic love of a married lady inspires many filmmakers. And now Karen Shakhnazarov is working on a new film adaptation. The shooting of key scenes started at the Vitebsk railway station in St. Petersburg the other day. And the main role went to Elizaveta Boyarskaya.

Reportedly, over the weekend, the Mosfilm film crew took one of the tracks in agreement with the leadership of Russian Railways. Before filming began, serious work was done on the appropriate design: benches and lanterns were installed on the platform, signs typical of 1872 were hung. The 1955 steam locomotive was also involved in filming. As specified, this particular model can be seen in the full-length British version of "Anna Karenina" by Joe Wright, presented in 2012.

As the press service of the Oktyabrskaya Railway explained, the shooting permission was issued in December last year. “This did not affect the movement of trains in any way. We looked in advance what trains should be, on what platform, on what track. The shooting schedule was lined up for two or three weeks so that these paths were not busy."

Recall that at one time the role of Anna Karenina was played by such famous ladies as Greta Garbo, Vivien Leigh, Jacqueline Bisset, Sophie Marceau, Keira Knightley.

The eight-part project Shakhnazarov plans to present to the public this year. The main roles in the series are played by Elizaveta Boyarskaya and Maxim Matveev. The role of Steva Oblonsky went to Egor Beroev, Vitaly Kishchenko plays Karenin.
