Spanish flamenco dance, Chinese acupuncture techniques and the "Mediterranean diet" are recognized as World Heritage by UNESCO. As you know, the list of intangible values appeared in 2003 with the aim of preserving important monuments of cultural heritage.
At the intergovernmental visiting session of UNESCO in Nairobi (Kenya), a unique culinary brand was presented jointly by four countries - Italy, Spain, Greece and Morocco.
“Our country is known to the world not only for its monuments and masterpieces of art, but also for its magnificent, natural and wholesome food, representing the glorious traditions of the Made in Italy brand,” said Giuseppe Politi, Chairman of the Italian Confederation of Agricultural Producers (IKS), in connection with the UNESCO decision. "This is a victory for quality and hard work, a high honor and recognition of the merits of generations of Italian farmers and chefs."
This year, the Committee for the Protection of Intangible Objects, including traditions, rituals, ceremonies, holidays and crafts, selected about 40 winners of 2010 from more than 100 applications.
Politi emphasized that the "Mediterranean diet" is a guarantee of health and longevity.
French cuisine is also included in the list of the World Intangible Cultural Heritage. This verdict was unprecedented. The gastronomic art of an individual nation has never been included in the list of intangible cultural heritage.
Now the French government intends to take a number of measures to preserve its rich gastronomic heritage, reports Euronews. As stated in a joint statement by the Minister of Culture Frederic Mitterrand and the head of the agricultural department Bruno Le Maire, in the near future the French authorities will begin to implement new programs aimed at encouraging local culinary customs, educating the younger generation about the national cooking culture, and developing gastronomic tourism within the country. and the promotion of French cuisine in the international arena.
