Most girls dream of becoming an ideal beauty at some point. This largely explains the popularity of plastic surgery services. However, in pursuit of external attractiveness, we often forget about the popular wisdom that says: "Beauty is not happiness." And as Dutch researchers confirm, this is indeed the case.

Researchers from Radbug University found that beautiful teens are much more likely to suffer from depression than their less attractive peers.

In the course of their study, scientists analyzed data on 230 teenagers aged 13 to 15 years with various types of appearance and came to the conclusion that outwardly attractive teenagers are more susceptible to suffering and depression than others.

Earlier, experts from the University of Helsinki said that the fairer sex is becoming more beautiful with each generation. Moreover, this pattern applies exclusively to women, and the appearance of men has not changed since they left the cave at the dawn of mankind.

Researchers explain this fact as follows. From an early age, those around them orientate such children in the wrong way, according to MedikForum.ru. Handsome teenagers realize early on their advantage over others. This develops pride and vanity in them and does not promote good relationships with peers.

In addition, parents often have high hopes for these children. Their expectations are high, and children begin to experience stress, fearing that they will not be able to live up to these plans and fulfill their parents' dreams.

Another danger of excessive attention on the part of parents to the appearance of adolescents may be the development in children of the desire to maintain their attractiveness at any cost and the development of abnormal eating behavior in them - anorexia and associated bulimia.
