The term "anorexia" is widely used to refer to a decrease or loss of appetite. This symptom is very common: it occurs not only in mental illness, but also in many somatic diseases.

The British Dietetic Association claims that 10% of their patients suffering from an eating disorder are women over 40. “Ten years ago, we were mostly approached by young girls,” says the head of the Association, Ursula Philpot. - But now the situation has changed markedly. Many women over the age of forty who have gone through a divorce or whose children no longer need custody begin to diligently look after their appearance. They want to be like the stars and think they look terrible in comparison."

"The pressure from celebrity culture is too strong," said Susan Ringwood, head of the National Center for Eating Disorders. - Nobody imagined that the situation would develop this way. It's not just girls who suffer from anorexia today. People do not want to grow old, they are afraid of gaining weight and make titanic efforts that can backfire.
