The Artchronika magazine has published an annual ranking of the most influential people in Russian contemporary art. In total, the list includes 50 names, including the controversial punk band Pussy Riot, which immediately took fifth place.
The leader of the rating was the executive director of the Moscow Museum of Modern Art Vasily Tsereteli. The art manager managed to displace such influential personalities as Roman Abramovich and Daria Zhukova - the couple took third place this year (Olga Sviblova took the second). But the gallery owner does not complain.
Zhukova's merits were noted not only by Russian professionals. Last week Daria received the Leo Award 2012. Named after the famous American gallery owner and collector Leo Castelli, she was founded in 1990 and is awarded for achievements in the field of contemporary art and its popularization.
Accepting the award, the gallery owner noted that the dissemination of contemporary art in Russia is not an easy task. But with the help of a number of educational programs, exhibitions and seminars, she and her colleagues managed to interest “the audience from 8 to 80 years old”. “I think that the success of these initiatives is rooted in the ability of our employees to connect to the global curatorial dialogue,” summed up Zhukova.
