It's the twenty-first century, but some members of the royal families, oddly enough, still cannot "marry for love." Prince Amedeo of Belgium, who married a year ago, reportedly lost his right to inherit the royal throne. And all because he got married without the official blessing of his uncle, King Philip (Philippe).

His Highness married the Italian aristocrat Elisabetta Lili Maria Rosboch von Wolkenstein in July 2014. The wedding ceremony took place in Rome, and His Majesty the King of Belgium was among the guests of honor.

But as it turned out, the monarch did not give formal consent to the marriage, and according to article 85 of the Belgian Constitution, Amedeo is no longer among the heirs to the throne. It is worth noting that His Highness was sixth in the list of contenders for the throne, after four young children of King Philip and his mother, the eldest sister of the monarch, Princess Astrid.

Incidentally, Article 85 was introduced at the request of King Leopold II (1835 - 1909 - ed.), Who thus intended to control his children - the crown prince and daughters.

However, the 29-year-old prince does not seem to be upset at all. As secular observers note, having married without the blessing of his uncle, the young man made it clear that he does not associate himself with public life.

He met Elizabethta Amedeo in England, where he studied at the London School of Economics. The Prince's wife graduated from Queen Mary University of London with a Bachelor of Arts in Literature and Film. Since 2009, the girl has been leading a cultural column in the famous Bloomberg News newspaper. The engagement of the couple was announced in February 2014, at the same time it was clarified that the ceremony would take place in the girl's homeland, Rome.
