A toothbrush is undoubtedly one of the most important components of personal hygiene. Any of us knows perfectly well that the brush should be changed at least once a quarter, and ideally once every two months. However, British scientists believe that the brush should not only be changed regularly, but also carefully monitor where it is stored. According to them, millions of people every day put their health at great risk due to the fact that they keep this item near the toilet.
Researchers from the University of Manchester analyzed and found that more than one hundred million bacteria can live on a toothbrush, including E. coli, staphylococcus, streptococcus and Candida fungi.
It is believed that toothbrushes began to be used in Europe in the 18th century, from the moment sugar entered the diet of people. Last year, German archaeologists discovered the oldest brush made from bone and pig bristles. Its age, according to scientists, is more than 250 years.
Pathogenic microbes can spread up to 1.8 meters from the toilet. During flushing, pathogenic bacteria enter the air and settle on nearby surfaces, and toothbrushes often end up in the "affected area" (if the bathroom is combined). Moreover, according to statistics, three out of four toothbrushes are stored in open containers, and every second is less than a meter from the toilet.
Scientists recommend storing toothbrushes in closed cases or using special cleaning systems to disinfect them.
Also, remember that doctors strongly advise changing the brush after you have had a cold, flu, oral infection or sore throat. The fact is that pathogens lurking in the bristles can lead to re-infection.

Ladies' hands are teeming with bacteria
An interesting feature of the female body was discovered by American biologists. It turns out that germs and bacteria love women's hands. This fact confirms the fact that there are much less bacteria on the palms of men. Scientists at the University of Colorado used a powerful gene sequencing (sequence) method and found about 150 different bacteria living on the human hand.
There are more bacteria around women than around men
